camping in Uttaranchal/ HP in summers ?

Having stayed in 2 years in the US - I have camped 10-15 times in my own tent - mostly in NPS well established campgrounds - couple of times in back country campsites as well -I am pretty much used to carrying loads of camping & cooking gear in my car/backpack - tents, sleeping bags, coal, fire starter, wood ,big cooler...et al

Needed some tips from folks who are camp here in India - is camping a good option - especially in HP /Uttaranchal where I plan to visit couple of times this year - are there established camping groups /sites /locations ?

or is roughing it out at your will in a suitable location along a road work ?
i used propane based lights & stoves in the US - should i use old fashioned kerosene stoves here ?

any tips would be welcome !
