It is freakishly expensive. The flight ticket itself costs some 1.25-1.5L per person. Till you move to USA, just keep dreaming

The trek up the mountain to visit Machu Pichu is considered one of the greatest journeys of the world. My boss did this a year or so ago and I think it took them three days of trekking.

I've always been fascinated by the place, from pictures and a wonderful wonderful book called the Celestine Prophecy. Someday I wish to go up there.

From what I've heard, it's nothing like the tranquil, fantastic destination that you see on TV anymore. It's swarming with tourists.

When you do make the long (and expensive) trip do your research well and try to go during the tourist off season.

Someone needs to approach the Peruvian embassy / tourism council and ask them to organise cost effective travel options from India to Peru. The air travel is ridiculously expensive but then again it would be a trip of a lifetime........... depends how you look at it.

I am also fascinated by this place. Have a Panasonic demo video (HD BluRay) of this great place. It is a must see. I hear that a song from an upcoming Tamil movie (Robot) is picturised there with Rajini and Aishwarya Rai.

One of the places on my "places to go before I die" list. I read about Macchu Picchu years ago when I was a little boy. I've been fascinated ever since. However, at that time, my priorities were Egypt and Neuschwanstein. Now that those 2 are down, this should be next, but I have a feeling a place as remote as this will end up being last!

My grand aunt is on a visit there now after a conference in Lima. She will be back in 10 days. Will try to get her opinion about the place, if its any good and helpful.
