Re: Mahabalipuram : Resort & Route

Hi All!

I am planning a quick trip from Bangalore to Mahabalipuram. I've a new Swift D’zire which clocked approx 3k Kms. What is the best route to reach Mahabalipuram and at what time I should start so that I can easily reach by 1 PM. Please suggest on this as I've no idea about the road condition.

I looked up the route in Google maps which listed Bangalore – Hosur – Krishnagiri – Vellore – Kanchipuram – Mahabalipuram (345 KM)

I am planning on this trip tomorrow, sorry for the short notice!

I went Chennai couple of weeks back and followed the same ruote till Kanchipuram. Yes, the road is really good. After Kanchipuram, you need to take right. Few KMs (say 5-10 KMs) after the said right turn, the road is not that good. Overall its a good route.

In case Kanchi-Chengalpet is painful and crossing the town is difficult, you can also continue to Sriperumbdur. Take a U at Rajiv Gandhi Memorial, come back and take the road to Oragadam and there on to Singaperumal Kovil on the GST. The total detour is about 25km. But you can void Kanchi. (Now I dont how is the Oragadam-Singaperumal Kovil road status is. The road till Oragadam is decent. But expect traffic.

This is what I meant: Route Link

Re: Mahabalipuram : Resort & Route

One more option is the newly opened ORR from Nazarethpet (before Poonamalee flyover) which joins with Vandalur at NH45. Then join ECR using Vandalur - Kelambakkam - Kovalam road.

Re: Mahabalipuram : Resort & Route

Thanks a lot for the help with the route. We had to make some last minute changes to the trip and the trip to Mahabalipuram was cancelled. I have made good use of the existing travelogues and drove to Yercaud.

Re: Mahabalipuram : Resort & Route

Hi Folks - Planning to drive from Sarjapur Road Bangalore to Mahabalipuram. Any suggestions on the route to choose based on latest road conditions. I will be starting by 8AM and imagine it would take around 6-7 hours. Any good places for lunch before Mahabalipuram?

I am planning to take the onward route that you mentioned, in a week or two. Are there any good places for lunch on this route.
onwards: Bangalore > Kolar > Chittore > Ranipet > Kanchipuram > chengalpettu > Mamallapuram

Since I stay in north of Bengaluru, this is the shortest route for me.

Re: Mahabalipuram : Resort & Route

jayantvs, Not many places that I have explored in this route. I started around 8.30AM from Bangalore last time. And stopped at this place for lunch. It is OK place. Not great or anything. But the average highway kind you get. South Indian meal was OK; did not try anything else. There is also a bakery next to it. seemed decent enough. Parking is good. and it is right on the main road. so that also helped. I had lunch here twice so far at different times. Did not cause any problems.

Mahabalipuram : Resort & Route-screenshot-20220523-6.11.49-pm.png

When you reach there, the restaurant is called Amrutha

There could be other places on this route that someone else may recommend.

Another option can be:

Ranipet-Sungubarchatram-Walajapet exit - Oragadam-Kelambakkam-Mahabs

This is pretty much 4-lane for long distance.

Re: Mahabalipuram : Resort & Route

Planning to take kids to Chennai in November as weather would be pleasant.

Dates planned: Nov 10,11,12,13.

One or two day in a beach resort and another 1 night in Chennai City. Understand most of beach resorts are in ECR.

Route suggestions required to cover both ECR and Chennai and places to stay.

Please suggest some kid friendly options.

Budget mid range: Resort - 5- 7k approx per night
Hotel - 3.5 k per night.
