Srinagar - Leh.. anyone done this by road?

Hi, im in Delhi and planning to go to Srinagar and go to Leh via road, anyone done this route recently, will be going via Kargil..

how long would it take, any idea about road conditions?.. if i need to stop over which is the best place..

planning this next week.. all suggestions and info are welcome.. thanks..
