We are planning a short break from Hyderabad ( now that the monsoons have greened the area!) and would like to go to Bidar. I would welcome any information regarding route, places to see, where to eat and any other advice.
Thanks.
Route is pretty straight forward.NH-9 from Hyderabad via Patancheru,Sangareddy,Zaheerabad and turn off right towards Bidar.Big boards and you cant miss the turn off.Around 120kms.3 hours.
We used to do a lot of trips from Bidar to Hyderabad. Dont remember any bad roads at all.
Bidari work is quite famous.
Ofcourse, there is this famous Gurudwara Nanak Jhira there as well.
It has a pretty famous fort as well.
Thanks all. I looked up the old thread and found some info. The drive appears to be nearly 160 kms and the route pretty straightforward.
If anyone has the latest info on road conditions, I'll be grateful.
Besides the Gurdwara, I read in a travel magazine that there is a palace called Rangin Mahal, a fort as well as some massive tombs. Has anyone visited these?
Thanks.
A few of the Hyd TBHPians are planning a trip to Bidar tomorrow 30th August. Look for updates after they return. You can check the thread for Hyderabad - July August to look up the details. The planned starting time is 10.00 a.m. from Gachibowli.
Cheers,

I checked out the thread you suggested and was happy to read about the great trip you had. I gathered from the write ups that the road was good.
Looking forward to our trip, which we may do in the third week of Sep.
Cheers.

The good thing about the fort is that you can drive around it without even having to alight from your car. Enjoy your trip.
How is the HYD - Bidar road now ?
If approaching from BLR, is it better to go directly from Mahbub nagar to Bidar,
or go via Hyd ring road ?

Coming from Bangalore, take the ORR from Shamshabad and exit onto NH9 and continue towards Zaheerabad and Bidar.NH9 is in bad condition at many places, but then there is no other option-unfortunately.
An update on the Hyderabad to Bidar route:
Zaheerabad to Bidar road is now in good condition with just a couple of bad patches.
The road is barely double lane but the traffic is also very sparse.
Thanks to the sudden welcome change in weather , I'm planning to ride till Bidar to check out the fort . Has anyone visited the Gurudwara before ? Wondering whether to visit or not .
I was there over the weekend for a high school reunion. And my father has a factory there so I used to live there for some years as a teenager.
Definitely visit the gurudwara - it is very nice, and the langar they serve is simple and delicious. Of course you pay for it with your service, helping to clean the vessels, serve food to other pilgrims.
The Mumbai highway you follow to bidar before turning off at Zaheerabad is disgusting once you get past the Nehru Outer Ring Road from Hyderabad airport - broken up in lots of places due to recent heavy rains, and half the road is closed for repairs at multiple points along the journey.
Several railway gates once you turn off from zaheerabad - but they are constructing a bypass road that is now reasonably motorable except for four or five km where a bed of rubble / road metal stones etc has been laid down. You can drive across that even now but well, if you are in a low ground clearance vehicle - just don't. It should be ready in the next few months.

Road from Sangareddy to Zaheerabad (and beyond) is being 4 laned (2*2) by L&T and most of it is paved well now, atleast 2 lanes out of 4. Work is on at a fast pace and I hope they complete it soon.
However, as the project includes laying a bypass road to Sadhashivpet, the current stretch passing thru this town is left alone. This stretch is horrible though.
Road from Patancheru to Sangareddy was under a toll operator earlier but NHAI removed the tolls recently. Hence, nobody is bothered about this stretch and there are quite a few big potholes in this stretch.
That fills in the details quite nicely! And the bypass will as a bonus help you avoid all the railway gates that you get stuck at.
