Bangalore - (Korome) Wayanad route query

Need to go to Korome this weekend. Last weekend, I drove from Cochin to Bangalore via Korome, however the roads were terrible, esp after Mananthavadi - Kutta etc (reached Mananthavadi after 6 pm, hence had to take Kutta route). How is the other regular route through the forest?

Please suggest the best route

Did this route last weekend. Was a terrible one.

Bangalore - Mysore (not to speak, great one)
Mysore - HD Kota - Anpost (good road for some 25 kms and the last few kms were through villages
Anpost to kattikulam thorugh forest -- the worst road... it's under construction and had to take a detour in between..

Kattikulam - Manandavadi - Not bad.

Anyone travelling to Wayanad should take Sultan Battery route .. forget all other options for the time being.

Jeep you are better off traversing the bandipur route to enter Wayanad via Muthanga. I have travelled both the routes quite recently. To say the route from Karapur Forest Range(After handpost HD Kote) to Mananthavady is in shambles is an understatement.

Unless you have a SUV at your disposal it doesn't make sense to travel this route. Drive via Mys-Nanjangud-Gundlupet-Muthanga-Sultan Bathery to Mananthavady.

Re: Bangalore - (Korome) Wayanad route query

Update on road condition
Muthanga > Sultan Bathery > Manandavadi > Kattikulam >Tollapetty >Kutta> Irpu falls

Been on this route on Saturday 23rd April 2011 . The road condition was as follows.

Muthanga > Sultan Bathery -Good smooth road
Sultan Bathery > Manandavadi Overall OK there were some rough patched
Manandavadi > Kattikulam Very good newly tarred roads
Kattikulam >Tollapetty >Kutta> Excellent rubberized road with median markers loved riding on this forest stretch. This good stretch ends after exiting Kerala Checkpost.
Kutta > Irpu – Bad -once you are in Karnataka side the road condition deteriorates rapidly with large pot holes and craters

Since nowadays its daily raining heavily during the evening times the road condition expected to deteriorate very soon.
