Best thing is to PM "HVKUMAR" and he will give you all the answers. He is the most preferred route man. Even there are plenty of guys for the route help but i came across him so i am telling his name(no offenses please)

Nothing better than NH63 all the way to Ankola via Gadag, Hubli and Yellapura. From there, it is NH17 via Karwar to Goa. NH17 has some bad sections, but nothing really to be worried about.

Distance details:
Hospet-Hubli 150 kms-Ankola 135 kms-Karwar 30 kms-Madgaon 75 kms-Panaji 35 kms, totalling 425 kms, which can be done easily in a day.

Another option could be going to Belgaum from Hubli and then proceeding to Goa via Amboli. Distance profile in a rough estimation would be,

Hospet - Hubli 150 kms
Hubli - Belgaum 100 kms
Belgaum - Goa 140 kms

Total distance would be roughly 400 kms, give and take 10 kms here and there

Regards

Belgaum to Goa???

But which route one shall take for Belgaum to Goa?
becuase if you take NH-4, you end up going thru the Londa - Molem route only, which as everybody has said should be avoided.

Cheers,
Dhruv

3 choices:
- Hubli-Kittur-Khanapur-LOnda-Molem-Panaji
- Hubli-Kittur-Belgaum-Khanapur-LOnda-Molem-Panaji
- Hubli-Kittur-Belgaum-Amboli-Savantwadi-Mapusa-Panaji

Third route preferred.

I would like to second HVK on the choice of route here from Belgaum to Goa. I have personally done the option 2 in HVK's list above as well and found it pretty good but a few BHPians later have complained about a 12 km stretch in between. Better to play safe and go via Amboli and Sawantwadi

What about the Panjim - Sanquelim - Kamkumbi - Piranwadi - Belgaum route ( SH - 31 + SH - 54) ?
Google maps shows this as the shortest!

Hampi -Hubli -Karwar- Madgaon is the route I have travelled.Till Hubli lorry traffic road drivable not good in patches.Travelling through Hubli towards Karwar highway would take 30-45mins and you have to ask people the route.Hubli-Ankola would be an excellent drive through ghats. There is a Kamat restaurant before Ankola you can refresh a bit. From there into Goa through Karwar would be 2.30hrs.

That's the most scenic route. Amboli ghats are beautiful

Madgaon-Londa

Require to travel on this stretch to catch a train from Londa to Bangalore. Is this stretch absolutely unmotorable ?
I need to take a taxi from Madgaon to Londa, I beleive the distance is about 90Km.

Hubli-Kittur-Belgaum-kankumbhi-chorla-sanquelim

did this route from belgaum to goa, found it better than the route from amboli/savantwadi which is having a few bad stretches now.
Chorla route has better roads and scenic as well.
enjoy your drive!
