dear teambhpians

im travelling to hyd on 4jan 2010 by air and hiring a vehicle which will pick me up at the airport from where we proceed staright to srisailam where i plan to stay at aptdc punnami resort hotel.

i plan to take darshan on 4jan see paladhara panchdhara ganpati temple and then i have two options on 5jan

1 go to hyd and plan a separate excursion to nagarjunkonda
2 go to nagarjunkonda from srisailam if so what is the route road conditions and what is the shortest route to take.

also i would require guidance on sightseeing in srisailam. ive heard that there is a tiger park where forest dept arranges excursions for 1 hour is this place on the way to srisailam from hyd?has anyone done it?also any info on the ropeway?

i plan to stay at vijayvihar complex in nagarjunkonda which rooms will give the best view? as there are 3 categories of rooms.

i wanted to know is it possible to start early from srisailam complete the nagarjunkonda circuit and head back to hyd the same day?

suggestions invited for best possible pogramme.

also would liek to know best possible stops for loo breaks and food on the route.

regards

praveen

The best possible would be from Srisailam get back to Kalwakurthy and from there to Devarkonda and Nagarjunasagar in case you want to finish both in one go.No idea regarding Srisailam Tiger park excursions. The route from Kalwakurthy to Devarkonda single road and drivable. There are some problems regarding bifurcation of the state so local people can guide you regarding the road block problems.

Hyd Apt-Srisailam would take you around 5hours.The forest safari is on the way to Srisailam. You wouldnt miss it as there are clear instructions and @ the gate to the safari is a huge tiger model, this on the road to Srisailam, though I am not sure,if there are any sightings, none have been reported till date.In case you intend to do the safari, then its advisable to do it enroute to Srisailam rather than doing it on your way back.

To nagarjuna sagar from Srisailam, the best & recco route would be what Gajadonga has suggested.Would take you around 5-6hours.

There are absolutely no washroom facilities or restaurant facilities that warrant a mention on the entire stretch(hyd-srisailam).so make sure you either carry food or pack them up before you leave HYD Apt,the other option would be for you to stop at the Novotel Hyd Apt (could be a slightly expensive proposition). Not sure if the ropeway is still functional.its a 3 minute ropeway one direction.

Hi, From Srisailam to Nagarjuna Sagar, there is another alternate Road. It's Via Dornala, Dupadu(take left to Yerragondapalem), Yerragondapalem and Macherla. You can reach Sagar with in 3.5 hours if you start early in the morning (i.e 5:30am) from Srisalam.

I travelled last April on this road as there will be not much traffic in between. Road is good except few bad strecthes between Yerragondapalem and Macherla and the road is too narrow( you have to go slow if bus/truck comes opposite) between Yerragondapalem and Macherla.

Pravdr,

I am planning a similar trip to Srisailam and Nagarjuna sagar next year around Feb/Mar 2010. Any information after you have done your trip will help. Expecting a travelogue from you please.

Did you book the accommodation in Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam. Can you give me the contact numbers.

Gajadonga,Ranjit,
You have mentioned the time it would take in the respective routes you have suggested from Srisailam to Nagarjunakonda. Can you also mention the distance in kms.

Srisailam to Nagarjuna sagar would be around 200kms through Kalwakurthy. Say about 5 to 5.30hrs driving would be comfortable.

On you'r way to hyderabad from nagarjuna sagar, You don have good places to have food, The best one is at around 50 to 70kms away from sagar, The best way to figureit out is that you come across a bharat petroleum or HP outlet on your way and that is the only biggest outlet on your way back to hyd, This dhaba is just few mts away from it. I keep travelling to sagar very often, Say once in a month so as far as i know, This is the best hotel on the entire road. On your way back, You'll find a beautiful temple which you will be coming across. Do give it a visit, It has been built beautifully. You'll like it for sure.

The best Mutton Biryanis in Hyd - in order:
1. Serengeti - Ohris, Banjara Hills
2. Handi Biryani - 7th Heaven, Panjagutta
3. Toss up between quite a few places. Hyderabad House Mutton Biryani is a treat too. Lots of Hyd House outlets across Hyd.

Chicken: (I do not have much of Chicken Biryani)
1. Paradise is the most famous.
2. Hyd House is pretty good too.
3. Serengeti food is awesome but have not had chicken biryani here but would assume it will be awesome too. Likely that it will be good competition to Paradise.

Other famous Biryani places: Bawarchi (RTC cross roads), Bahaar (Himayath nagar)

Kalyani Biryani means beef - so be careful. I must have eaten hundreds of Biryanis over the years and writing this article has made me hungry for Biryani again.

While in Srisailam, you can get vegetarian meals at the restaurant attached to Gouri Sadan and Ganga Sadan hotels---I believe they are AP Tourism's.
If you are proceeding to N'Sagar via Mananur, Dindi and Devarakonda, then there is a spartan dhaba just before the 2nd police checkpost near Manannur--just before a speed breaker. We had rotis and anda burji there and it was okayish. Pleaser search for my travelogue of June, 2007 for details.
No naxal problems have been reported in that area for a long time.

If you prefer to go to N'Sagar via Dornala and Yerragondlapalam, then you can get decent food only near the destination---either at N'Sagar or at Ethipothala falls, which are a few kms before N'Sagar---you gotta turn right and drive for around 5 kms.
I suggest you take this route, as it is a bit shorter to N'Sagar and more scenic---at least the first 40 kms to Dornala.

Gouri Sadan or Ganga Sadan at Srisailam---via AP Tourism. Vijay Vihar at Nagarjunasagar via AP tourism. The latter has a good ambience and also a swimming pool.

All,

Can you share the contact number, to book accommodation in Gouri or Ganga Sadan at Srisailam, if you have the same. I could not find the same in AP tourism website.

hotel ganga sadan numbers are +919948087760 and 04023298456 for aptdc central reservation office.

as far as i know i had a very difficult time with absolutely nonchalant staff at aptdc central res office.since iam from mumbai they told me to email my req after that they told me to book by demand draft but before booking you have to phone up the resort where you want to book and make sure the rooms are available!!!!
and if iam not wrong the reservations have to be made at central res office only .you cannot approach aptdc hotel and book on the spot.correct me if my info is wrong.for out of hyderabad people this is really troublesome.
apart from ganga and gouri sadan there is aptdc punnami resort where i stayed and found it to be basic and comfortable.food was basic.
however its value for money.

we had food at chital restaurant which has opened at mananur checkpost near the forest RH. it serves basic meals for INR40 the cottages are decent too.

there is a aptdc at dornala where you can have food make sure you have food here as the next stop where you can have decent food is at macherla which is a very desolate road.as said the road to dornala is extremely scenic we saw a peacock and a iguana which was quite big we thought it was a snake till it stopped and we could have a closer look.i wish this forest stays the way it is it is alive!!!

vijayvihar has a good ambience and okay restaurant with ok food breakfast is basic the ambience makes up for the cost. swimming pool is decent and working
