Rahul,
- There is an excellant thread in the forum about precautions before taking a long journey.
- Buy TTK maps of Banagalore, Goa, Maharashtra,Gujarat,Rajastan
- For Mumbai roads, you may but Eicher Map for Mumbai.
- For seeing progress on Golden Quadrilator Roads, refer the site:
- From menu --> Programmes --> Golden --> NH4 & NH8
- Your mobile phone car charger

Hope this helps

Rahul

How about the following route seems to be the straightest:-

Bangalore - Lakhnadon NH7
Lakhnadon - Jhansi NH26
Jhansi - Gwalior NH75
Gwalior - Agra NH3
Agra - Delhi NH2
Delhi - Rajpura NH1
Rajpura - Chandigarh NH22

Check out this link it might help

http://www.mapsofindia.com/driving-d...ghway-map.html

I have no idea about the condition of the roads.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Yes. The general feeling is that people avoid going thro' MP. I have never driven in MP and I have no idea about the state of roads there.

The route you have chosen is the best. If you take the shortest route, ie via mp, the roads vanish when you finish with andhra. Interior MP and maharashtra are no no, esp mp with dacoits and all. As for the Bangalore to bombay, it would be better to go via pune as the NH4 is real good. There are regular buses on that route so safety is okay. For mumbai to delhi you can look at the post previus to yours.
From delhi to chandigarh its a mixed bag. From delhi till toll road start its a nightmare. Good road punctured with occasional huge potholes, so DO NOT attempt at night. I have bent rims from that NH1. then till ambala its a breeze and after that you have 45 kms. They will be the most dangerous 45 kms. That road is single lane and extremely dangerous with killer buses racing each other.
If you are doing it for enjoyment, then its okay otherwise if you just want to move your car truck works out cheaper(12K). Also try not to do it alone.

Hey Rahul. I did this back in 2002, immediately after returning from Singapore. Could not afford a car in Sing, so maybe got all theenergy needed to do this trip. I did this from Delhi to Bangalore. I more of less used the above listed route.
The Bang-Lakhnadaon goes through Hyderabad & Nagpur. Be careful on the Jhansi-Lakhnadaon leg........it is a very lonely stretch. At one point we were driving alone in the darkness ...in the jungles...with only pot holes for roads. If my 800 had stopped here, I would have run to the first available tree. Still scared to think of that stretch.
Don't worry about hotels, but try to reach the nearest city/town before dark.
We did this journey in 4 days......only day driving.

Come to think of MP roads. We (me and my bro) did a 100 km stretch which was only gravel. broke the fuel line and were stranded till some poor soal came and patched it up. Took to the nearest town and proceeded.
I hope the roads are improved......else there are some really nice picturesque spots in MP .....usually jungle lodges.

Thanks TSK. and its not for cost cutting. i have been planing this for 2-3 years now and i think i have got the right excuse this time.
i will be the only driver on this trip. i have already done many 500+ km single day rides and drives, and i plan to do max 650 km in a day.
