Pune to Rann of Kutch route?

What is the best way to go to Rann of Kutch from Pune on a motorcycle? I am planning a trip in April. I know it would be hot like hell. I have been there before during summer time. Help me out guys.

You could go to VIramgam highway by taking NH8 via Bombay till Ahmedabad, connecting with the Sardar Patel Ring Road and connecting with the Viramgam highway (Sanand road, I think) after Sarkhej, without entering A'bad city.

Thanks guys. What all should I be carrying with me besides loads of water, fuel, GPS, the usual tool kit and spare tubes? Is it safe to camp out in the open?
