Help in Planning Coorg & Chikmagalur

Hi Team,

Was going through many logs here, but not able to find concrete information.

I am planning to visit Coorg and CMG on May 1-May 4th can extend till May 5th.

First of all is 4 days enough to visit both these places?

I am starting from Chennai mostly on May 1 early morning to reach Coorg max by 1600 hrs. take rest that evening. Visit Dubare elephant camp and nearby places next day, stay at Coorg and then travel to CMG on 3rd May. Have peace till 4th noon or 5th depending friends leaves.

I need to know the best road route now?

Also if you can give any options on homestays at both the places?

Any additional info is helpful.

thanks!

The route from Chennai

Chennai-Hosur-Bangalore-take left at NICE Road-Mysore road-Srirangapatna-Hunsur-Kushalnagar-Chetalli-Madikeri

Madikeri to Chikmagalur

Madikeri-Somwarpet-Shanivarasanthe-Mallipatna-Arkalgud-Hassan-Belur-Chikmagalur

Chikmagalur to Bangalore-Chennai

Chikmagalur-Belur-Hassan-Kunigal-Magadi-NICE Road-Hosur road-Hosur-Chennai

There is not much problem with bad roads for the onward journey. You may have to be careful for the section from Madikeri to Hassan on the way to Chikmagalur. The road surface is broken at places and it is a single lane road between Mallipatna & Arkalgud, a distance of 10-12kms. But a Punto should manage it easily.

Hassan-Chikmagalur is a breeze as is Hassan-Bangalore

You dont find many hotels in CKM. There are two and they are 5 Stars. (Taj and Serai). Mostly you should find only homestays.

I would recommend a homestay to enjoy the coffee estates from close quarters. You can look up travelogues on Chikmagalur to get reviews on different homestays. I'm sure there are a handful of them.

For a more luxurious stay, you can try the Taj Gateway or The Serai.

Yes, I am looking for a homestay option only and mostly it would be 2-3 couples.

Hence searching for something not too expensive but nice.

Never been there though, but heard about it.
