Route query to Wayanad
(

Jacs,
Its not worth travelling for a day to Waynad and be back by evening. Its again an experience that you soak in (I need not even tell you that!). If you want to do it for the drive, you can do. But for that you can even do Gudalur. Its all the same forest. Best is stay in there and enjoy places around more by walk or, part drive and part walk. You can go to Masinagudi also.

Quite doable , however the places you can visit would be limited. With the onset of the monsoons it should be fun unless you don't wanna indulge in the rains.
Skip all the mountains/treks and head straight to some nice scenic place enjoy the views and get back by evening.
I would say Karapuzha dam and banasura sagar dam,any other place will simply take a lot of time.
Thanks Ampere and Riju. But September would witness heavy rains in these areas? Also any idea whether Sancturies would be closed if its a breeding season or something, I remember reading it somewhere.

1) Must visits in Wayanad for a day trip
2) Wildlife and Safari availability during September season |
As you are already visiting Bandipur/Masinagudy, you may skip Muthanga and Tholpetty. You may wish to visit the Edakkal Cave, Pookot lake, Kuruva Island.
Since its raining, i guess it will be a good idea to visit Soochippara falls. This one is near Chembra Peak. Nice drive through the plantations as well. When i had been there 4 months back, it was not at its full peak. Sure there will be more water now.

Aye I missed the September part Jacs', apologies !! Go for it but it would be too much to squeeze in for a 1 day schedule if you intend to see more than 2 places.
How about chilling out at Pookot lake side hotel and munching Bhajjis for snack with a strong tea? :)

Thats just another mundane place with nothing eye soothing in terms of nature. I come from there and would recommend visiting some of the dam's which are really picturesque.

Riju, Do these dams have covered sit out places? When we went we had with us a 5 month baby and hence could not
run around much. Another visit is definitely on cards!

I have a few pictures from Banasura Sagar for now and yes this place has a small park around it .
Karapuzha also does have one IIRC. Need to dig up a few pics from at home.
Thanks all for the inputs. It will definitely help me plot the trip better. BTW any idea whether these sancuaries will be open to public during this September?
Guys,
Due to some booking availability and leave problems, restricting the trip to 3days 2 night and so Wayanad is taken away from the itenary and its completely Bandipur/Mudumalai!
Any recent updates on Mysore - Bandipur stretch? Also any weather updates would be highly appreciated. Plan is for 24th to 26th September 2010 but booking is yet to be confirmed.

Its the regular road; good 2L beyond Gundlupet all the way up to Bandipur.
Mysore-Nanjangud is kind of potholed.

Mysore to Nanjungud is nothing less of the moons surface. Craters at every place and above all moronic drivers with absolutely no regards for oncoming traffic.
Cross
Nanjangud and it eases quite a bit. From there on its a breeze all the way till
gundlupet and beyond. Pretty good roads and the stretch beyond gundlupet towards masinagudi looks like it was recently laid.
Thanks Ampere and Riju. Anyone travelled to bandipur recently? I needed inputs on safaris and activities around there.
