Have been using the NH7/NH46 for the same, and bored to death.

Saw SH routes through Bangalore - Sarjapur - Mallur - Bangarpet - Gudiyatham - Pallikonda - Vellore. Has anyone traveled through this route? Any input welcome.

I used the Bangalore-Malur stretch to by-pass BLR-Kolar. It a beautiful SH except for very rough patches at Sarjapur by-pass
and a small stretch between Baglur and Malur.

Here is my note on the same:

I am told of the route you suggested: The Bangarapet-VenkatagiriKota stretch (wherre you cut NH219; Krishnagiri-Palamaner road),
is pretty desolate and also not in a good shape.

Did not try the other side of it, which will connect to Vellore.

Thanks ampere. Is there a route from Chikka Tirupati to Malur? google map shows it. This, if exists, will be shorter compared to going through Bagalur.

Also Malur-Kolar route is different from Malur-Bangarapet route.

Anybody else traveled in this route?

I am not aware of any. There may be some village roads that may connect Chikka Tirupati to the Baglur-Malur SH. I am not sure if its worth it.

Sarjapur-Baglur-Malur is pretty decent but for those rough patches that I mentioned.

Yes you are right that Malur-Kolar is different to Malur-Bangarpet. You need to take the Bangarpet route.
That part I have not gone. Once I had a grand plan to hit Venkatagirikota on NH219 and return to Bangalore via Krishnagiri.
Just for the sake of exploring those roads!

Have been through Bagalur to Chikka Thirupathi about 3 years back & it was nothing less to Himalayan rally. If you've played NFS3, it will remind you the track rocky pass, except that you'll not see disappearing roads. But again, that was 3 years ago.

Last time I went, Sarjapur-Chikka Tirupathi was smoothly tarred. Sarjapur-Bagalur is as usual a decent route, with green fields all around. If you are coming through the Sarjapur road, then its getting past Sarjapur town, which is the big hurdle. No less than 4X4 experience.

Yes I have been to Chikka Tirupati (and know the sarjapur town roads :Shockked:) and also almost till Bagalur and both the routes are decent apart from few parts as Ampere mentioned.

Looks like with the option of NH-4 and GQ present, none have ventured out in the SH in between.

Is there such a thing as the best route from Bangalore to Vellore? Google Maps shows me 3 routes: NH4 (212km), NH7+NH46 (228km), NH4+SH59 (206km). I have heard uniformly good reviews about both NH7 & NH4. Are there other factors (rest areas, food, scenery, construction, toll, etc.) that will make one route definitely better than the other?

Any help / tips / advice would be sincerely appreciated.

Regards,
Swaroop

BLR - Hosur - Krishnagiri - (towards Chennai) - Vellore.

It's the highway. Did BLR Chennai 3 weeks back. Only problem I faced was, after The TTDC hotel in Krishnagiri, did not find too many options for food.

Take the NH7-NH46, the latest page of the Madras-Bangalore thread should give you an idea about the eateries, toll amounts et.al.

There is a Krishna Inn, McD and Coffee Day in the same HP petrol bunk before Krishnagiri apart from the Adyar Ananda Bhavan (BP Ghar Dhaba) that are pretty popular. You could very much do Bangalore-Vellore under 3 hours, Hotel Aryas in Vellore accessible from the highway is a decent place to eat, although parking might be an issue.

It is one simple route. NH7 till Krishnagiri, NH46 from thereon. 4 laned all the way. Apart from the clutch of restaurants like CCD, A2B and Krishna Inn at Shoolagiri (Hosur-Krishnagiri), there are also other restaurants after that, although I am unable to name any specific ones. I guess you can reach Vellore in under 3 hours from Bangalore (Madivala).

This is the fastest route to Vellore. Good roads, good scenic view and good restaurants. There is a new restaurant opened adjacent to the Vaniyambadi Toll booth. I think it is called Marfazza or something. Food is pretty tasty. You could try that.

I went this route last weekend and it is an excellent road. NH7 till K'giri and NH 46 after that. Takes about 3.5 hrs of driving time depending on traffic. The round distance form Bangalore - Vellore Bangalore was 415 kms, including a trip to Sripuram temple.

And the good thing about 46 is that, since its a connecting highway, you wont find major trucks. As they would either full NH7 or NH4, but rarely the connecting highway.

That is where we get the benefit.

Best route is Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Bargur - Vaniyambadi - Ambur - Vellore though it is slightly longer than hoskote/ old madras road but it's very safe & will get best mileage out of your car.

After the toll booth in krishnagiri - go past the first flyover & take left before the before the 2nd fly over. Don't venture into Krishnagiri town. This part could be confusing.

Except this, it's a clear road with road signs all over & you will not get lost in this road at all. Almost every 5 to 10 kms you will find some town/ village and tea shop's almost the entire stretch beyond the popular restaurants which narayans80 & other has mentioned.

Have a safe & good trip.
