Kashmir in Christmas

Hi Team,
I am planning for a trip to Kashmir during Chritsmas. I would appreciate help from fellow BHPians for planning this trip:
- Does snow fall occurs by Christmas?
- Skiiing,for beginers (Gulmarg?)
- Places to visit (Srinagar, Gulmarg, ???)
- How many days would be enough? Pls note would be flying both ways to/from Srinagar. I have one entire week.
- Travelling with family (my 7 yr old loves snow - however, she could not enjoy much this past May on Rohtang (I beleive because of the altitude). Assuming no such issue in Kashmir).
- Places to stay

Regards
Naren

I have driven to Kashmir at X'Mas time.
Snow fall happens in Gulmarg but snow is too soft for any skiing.
Srinagar is too cold and gardens are totally dry, bereft of any greenery or water.
Road to Sonmarg is open, but can get closed down on teh way if there is heavy snowfall. Hardly anything there too.
I would avoid visiting Kashmir at that time.

Thanks HVK. This is important for me as snow in 'central' to our trip. If not skiing - I hope the view would be as good as seen in posters?

- Which month would best for both views and Skiiing?

Also, would Srinigar be good - staying in Shikara on Dal lake for a night etc?

Regards

Thanks Rahul (I had already gone through your thread few months back). Do you think 7 days would be too much in JK during winter? I plan to to reach Srinagar afternoon on 25th and start back afternoon on 1st.

Regards

Unless the snowfall is delayed, you should have snow in Gulmarg by X'Mas. Snow continues till March after which spring is in the air. Very difficult to get the best of both worlds - snow and greens - in Kashmir.

One does not stay in a Shikara - that is a small rowing boat meant to ferry passengers - but in a large houseboats, typically with 3 bedrooms. You can bargain well during this season, the place will be empty of tourists.

Hi,
Plan is on hold due to prevailing situation in JK. In fact I have already taken time off during Diwali in lieu.

Thanks anyways HVK and Rahul for the suggestions.
