1. How bad would traffic conditions be at that time if I were to go into & out of Mysore city?
2. As advised above, would it be better to take the ring road (no previous experience of using this road)?
3. Where do I turn on to the ring road??? What signs/shops/landmarks do I look out for to ensure I turn correctly?
4. Is it a continuous road that reaches back to the highway? At what point??
5. What will be the total distance covered and what is the estimate of time saving??
6. What is the condition of ring road??

IMO,the ring road is a long never-ending road and potholed at many sections, its easier to go via the city and connect straight to the ooty road .Ring road is well marked,so that should not be a problem for you.Look for signs to Ooty.

Don't ever make the mistake of taking the ring road towards your right from Columbia Asia junction. You end up driving about 10 kms extra, is full of construction activity or potholes most of the time and will add at least 15-20 minutes of travel time if not more.

The other option (taking a left at Columbia Asia) is better, but is poorly marked - so if you are not familiar with the road you might end up right in the middle of the city again ! See directions in this message of mine : http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ml#post2455199

But in my experience going through the city is quite OK, and probably faster unless you have some event going on like the Dasara procession for instance.

The responses are in line

Its the peak time and i presume would take

2. As advised above, would it be better to take the ring road (no previous experience of using this road)?

I always take the ring road and found to be having lesser traffic

3. Where do I turn on to the ring road??? What signs/shops/landmarks do I look out for to ensure I turn correctly?

Its the first signal as you are entering Mysore. The link on Google Maps is http://g.co/maps/ujye8

4. Is it a continuous road that reaches back to the highway? At what point??

Check Google Map

5. What will be the total distance covered and what is the estimate of time saving??

Its 17 Kms through ring road to cross Mysore and 11 Kms through the city.

6. What is the condition of ring road??

It was in good condition about 6 months back
