Road condition: Bangalore - Wayanad (via Mysore)

Hi guys,

I'm planning to make a trip to Wayanad on account of my birthday

coming up. Would like to know good package tours for 2-3 days only or to trip myself booking buses and hotels. Budget around 10-15K only all inclusive. Kindly advice.

My advice is to drive down, if possible. It is a very scenic and route and the traffic is very less after Mysore.

Ramki, I'm not sure on package tours from BLR but booking by yourself should not be a problem. It's not yet tourist season so the rates should be affordable and the stay/tickets easier to get. By the way, Wayanad is not very far from BLR via Mysore so you could consider a drive too. If you asked for my opinion, I would do my own reservations as I like being a free bird and not tied to a group tour.

Thanks SafeDrive. Could you please advice on the good affordable hotels/lodges to stay in. I read in Mouthshut that Hotel Woodlands is a good hotel to stay in or is there any better options? Does hotels/lodges offer sightseeing by themselves or how can i go about it. Need in details please.

Try Vythri resorts. These are very good. Quite expensive i guess. Might be around 6K per night. Yup, Woodlands is the first choice because its in Kalpetta and economical too. But its not a resort. I stayed in a hotel called Mint Flower. Decent hotel right at the start of Sulthan Bathery. Drive down mate, definitely worth a drive and you would enjoy it

Rains means leech problem there. My friend is from Wayanad and says that at this time if you touch or brush a leaf, you will have one leech sitting on you.

Hotel wise the best is Woodland in Kalpetta. But it is always booked to full. We stayed in Hotel Harithagiri, Kalpetta again. Its good value for money. AC was I think 1200 and non AC was 800. I am not sure on the rates. Better check.

If you stay there then do try out the Ayurvedic Massage. You will need it after visiting the Meenmuthi and Soochipara waterfalls.

Its worth going in rains. Even if you dont do anything, its fun sitting on the balcony, with lots of food! As Riju mentioned, visit to the dams should be very nice.

I think its fair to say that you gotto visit such places during the monsoons. Ever done a trip to Malenadu in Karnataka during the monsoons ? The beauty of the place is showcased during the monsoons. Its the same with Wayanad also, the only problem is that you wouldnt be able to venture into the streams/rivers.

Something I am yet to experience at-least in my hometown

. I am yet to be bitten by one during the monsoons. That said I don't think there is a problem with leeches here.

However down south its leech mayhem always, check my vagamon travelogue.

Yes its raining in Wayanad, but that should be a reason to only rejoice!
The monsoon makes the place much more beautiful. You cant really predict the rains there though. It's all bright and sunny, when all of a sudden it starts pouring. This week, the monsoons have subsided down comparatively.
Make sure you wear good boots if you are plan to trek.
