Road condition in Himachal

Hi Folks

We are planning a road trip from Gurgaon to Kasol. While I am familiar with the route more or less (having done Manali earlier), I am aware that the Kiratpur to Bilaspur stretch via Swarghat can be troublesome, with bad surfaces and possible traffic jams.
Would you suggest that I take the longer route via Una and connect back to NH 21 at Ner Chowk. Has anyone taken this route?
Need your helpful tips on this please.
