This is great to note! Last I read it was getting ready for opening. Also did you notice any work close to Addanki? Where greenfield section of the new Bangalore-Vijayawada expressway starts (or ends).

I did not notice any construction going on, but I am not exactly sure of the location where the new highway connects so I haven't paid close attention. I will be driving back in the same route in couple of weeks, so I will try to observe and post an update here.

It should be some where around the area marked.

Hi , i have a planned travel from bangalore to kolkata . I will be travelling with Pet, so wanted to know some godd breakfast and dining spots between Rajamundry and Vizag.
The best breakfast spot just before the Vizag bypass would be Hotel JAS. That's the cleanest hotel I've come across on the whole NH16 in Andhra, very clean washrooms and above average food, also not very expensive.

There is a new Food Pyramid after Diwancheruvu, when I traveled some weeks back it seemed to be a huge place. Food Pyramids usually have good ratings, and as per Google this one is no different.

Is there any public transport available from Jagdalpur to Chitrakoote or Tiratgarh waterfall? Have 5 hrs time to catch up with any of these waterfall. What will be the cost of auto to and from Jagdalpur?
Thank you everyone for the invaluable tips and caution. Completed the journey in the first week of December. Started at 4.30 on 30th Nov and reached Bangalore on 11.30AM on 3rd Dec. As suggested by some of you folks, didn't book hotels beforehand and planned the stops based on our journey time. All the drives were planned for the early morning to evening, the maximum we drove was till 8.45PM with multiple breaks in between. On day 1 drove till Berhampore and stayed at Hotel Golden Retreat, it was really good for 2.8K per night. On day 2, started little late at around 6.30 and drove till 8 PM and stayed at Lake Tampara, Chatrapur in Odisha, it was a decent stay with good food for 2.5K. on day 3 started around 5.50, drove till 8.30PM and stayed at Nellore. We took about 8 stops with 1 hour for lunch break (finished lunch in about 30-35 mins then rested). Stay was OK, not sure great but manageable for one night. On day 4, started at 5.30AM, stopped at Tirupathi bypass for breakfast and reached home near Whitefield station at 11.30AM.
It was a great drive except for the roads in North Bengal. G-Maps didn't help as it directed us through the Alipurduar town. Those were probably the worst roads I have driven/seen in my life. Considering I have stayed in Assam till 2006, it tells something as we didn't have much roads then. But from Krishnanagr onwards, roads are really good, except for some sections post Naidupeta.
Thanks again for all the inputs and other details on this thread was really helpful in completing this trip.
Update on Naidupeta Tirupathi road.
I call this the last headache in my Vijayawada-Bangalore drive. Used to be such a pain that I used to go through Yerpedu - Venkatagiri - Gudur inside roads to avoid the mess and countless idiots who would do anything to push your car off road.
But now, the 3x3 lane highway is open for all. One mistake I did is taking the old entry and miss the entry to highway. Had to take really really bad old road filled with potholes for few minutes, you can see from below video. Please make sure that you enter the new elevated highway from 16.

Be very very careful while driving on the new Naidupeta Renigunta elevated highway. There is still lot of work going on, construction vehicles will be coming in wrong side, obstacles will be there, vehicles entering fast lane from the gaps in median. Stick to safe speeds till the road work is done for good.

I can say that this new road has drastically reduced the strain and time.
You will also see construction vehicles that are almost two lanes long due to two long arms on either side. These are load laying vehicles (with that long arm) mounted on truck and carried to another place. Good thing is that on both ends of arm, there is one worker standing and waving red flag. If you miss seeing these, expect your car getting totaled and you offering prayers directly to the God instead of in a temple.
Below video (tractor going on wrong side which I believe is their usual side :D at 0:12 and massive vehicle you can see at around 0:40)

I did the route Bhubaneswar-Vizag-Vijaywada-Hyderabad again today.
Started at 6:15 from Patrapada and reached at 23:50 at Kompally.
Road updates:
- Bhubaneswar to Vizag is butter smooth 6-lane roads, except for 1 flyover under construction, after Brahmapur.
- Vizag to Atkuru is the same, mostly 4-lanes with the occasional top surface having worn off. Plenty of repair work going on all through, so lots of slowdowns. To catch the West Vijaywada bypass road, there is a blink and you miss U-turn so keep an eye out for the signs. It stretches to the right of the old NH-16 right and, rather confusingly, marked as the road to Vijaywada.
- Vijaywada bypass road’s first few kilometres have the dreaded ruts from the heavy vehicles on the fast lane so keep to the left when possible. After the first toll-booth the road is superb until Nunna, where a few missing sections are quite painful to navigate.
- As the final sections of the bypass are not complete, I had to go through the western part of the city.
- NH-65, nothing major to report. Had lunch at Annavaram (One resort) and dinner at Suryapet (7 plaza) . Both are trusted spots and did not disappoint on this occasion.
- Trip meter reads 1048 kms door to door in just under 18 hours.

1050 kms in 18 hours. Average speed = 58.3 kmph. Where did you lose time? Was it because of longer breaks or just slower cruising?

Siddhant, we had 4 longish breaks (30-45 mins) and at least 4 other minor breaks (5-15 mins) that I can recount.
It’s one of the joys of travelling with a pre-teen and a toddler in the backseat. ;)
Tirupati - Kalahasti - Naidupeta is almost fully 6 laned except for minor works, all bypasses open
- Naidupeta Trumpet Interchange connecting NH16 and NH71 has opened since a few days directly onto Naidupeta NH71 bypass (it was blocked on 18th Dec with stones)
- All bypasses like Kalahasti, Yerpadu, Renigunta are fully completed
- There are 3-4 sections where minor work is pending around Kalahasti and Yerpadu, it should be done soon. In these sections, some have 1 lane closed, some have 2 lanes closed
- There are no diversions onto the old road anymore, its only the above lane closures which have pending minor work
- End of Tirupati 4lane Bypass to NH16 can now be done easily in 30-40 minutes now
Pictures from yesterday in Naidupeta to Tirupati direction.
NH16-NH71 Trumpet interchange while coming from Nellore side, now also marked in Google Maps
Minor pending work on Trumpet interchange
Naidupeta Bypass
Completed 6 lane sections from Naidupeta to Kalahasti
Some minor pending work before Kalahasti Bypass
Pending work section on Kalahasti Bypass
Pending minor work after Kalahasti
Yet to be inaugurated toll between Kalahasti and Yerpadu (the only toll on this section)
Yerpadu Bypass
Start of Renigunta Bypass
End of the 6lane road at KLM Circle, Ellamandayam, before Tirupati 4lane Bypass.

+1
Did the stretch today. Naidupeta to Chittoor was a breeze except for some traffic on Tirupati bypass road.
Nellore to Naidupeta, the road is deteriorating.
Chittoor to Bangalore, there are at least four major diversions causing bottlenecks.

I also did the same mistake on my return journey from Vizag to BLR. Unfortunately google showed this route by default. But when I took this route I realized that I hadn't taken that route during my onward journey.
Yes the Naidupeta Tirupati stretch is almost done that is the reason I could do Vizag to Blr in under 15 hrs. Tolls in this route are still not operational so it is like free ride on this excellent stretch.
