Madurai - Suruli Falls - Thekkady : Request for advise

Hi all,

I'm planning to Visit Madurai, Suruli Falls and Thekkady.

Here is my tentative itinerary.
29 - 30th Afternoon : Madurai (Official Trip)
31st Morning : Suruli Falls
31st Evening : Thekkady
2nd Afternoon: Checkout from thekkady to Bangalore

What's the ideal route from Madurai to Suruli Falls?
Hows the road condition from Suruli Falls to Thekkady?

I would like to know if I need to follow any good practices during my travel.

Thanks in Advance.

~ Chandra

To reach Suruli Falls, you need to take the following route.

Madurai->Usilampati->Andipatti->Theni->Kambam->Suruli Falls.
After you reach kambam, enquire the locals how to reach Surulipatti/suruli falls.

From Suruli Falls, to reach Thekkady, join back to NH220 and go further up to Kumily and then Thekkady.

Since you are going to Thekkady, don't miss the night safari there. They conduct it in 2 slots. First from 7 pm to 10 pm and second from 10 pm to 1 am. It will cost Rs.500/= or so. Go for the second one to catch more wild life.

If you are driving, once you reach the cumbam, continue a little further till you see the Gandhi Statue. Take that left and keep going all through the road. At the end take the right, and it will g directly to Suruli.

The other option is to take left before you reach the cumbum busstand junction. The left goes to K.K.Patty. Go through this and take the last right, which will again take you to suruli.

If you are taking a bus, get down in Cumbum, walk till Gandhi statue and take an auto or the small bus. Best time is to start in morning around 6am. So you don't have much crowd.

Its very simple Chandra. You can easily find out the Reception in Thekkady which is just in front of boating place.
I guess, you need to tell them in advance (probably after lunch or during evening) and may be need to pay money also to buy tickets for night safari, so that they make necessary arrangements.

Travel info needed: Bangalore to Thekkady

Need to be in Thekkady on 14th to 16th March (have booked in Club Mahindra).

I will not be driving but taking a train from Bangalore

Kottayam and Madurai are the nearest stations (120 and 140kms).

Which is the better option? Madurai or Kottayam

What are the travel options from Madurai/Kottayam to Thekkady?

Thanks,

I guess Kottayam would be a better option. You can either take a Taxi which will cost you around 2-2.2k or one of those frequent KSRTC/Private buses from Kottyam to Kumily (Thekkady is just 4kms from there) the journey time would be 4-4.5 hours.
