Re: Christmas 2010 in Southern Kerala: Suggestions needed

OK. So you would definitely know the list of churches. SMS FIL for the list - I am on the lookout for the old ones and the ones with the grandeur steps and amongst rubber estates - and please pass it on and I am sure he would have the history of each and every one. I can see St. Alphonse is on the Pala-Vagamon route, probably I will pay a visit but not sure of Arthunkal on the Alappuzha coast. Need some peace!

Chennai, Tamil Nadu to Chennai, Tamil Nadu - Google Maps

Just back after a refreshing trip from 24th Dec to 1st Jan. Approx 2000 km.
From the beaches of Kollam/Kovalam, through the coastal roads of Vallikaavu (Amrithapuri)/Azheekal to the Kayankulam kayal, on top of Jattayupara, cruising through the Ashtamudi kayal and the dam of Thenmala to the hills of Vagamon/Munnar, eating mallu cuisine, from sea-food to meat-curry with Kerala spices, dining at a family kallu-shaap on the famed Alleppey-Changanassery route, shopping for Marayoor tapioca/koorka/foot-wear/bronze utensils/Aranmula-mirror - from the sea-side church of John Britto at Sakthikulangara to the hill-side tomb of St. Alphonso, from the chat with the fisherman who lost his brother to the Tsunami to the oracle of the Lodge attendant who mentions E=mc2 in his talk. Catching up with SB and family and naughty little Aman at their home, meeting up with a family whom wifey had lost contact over the past 26 yrs.

All in all it was a trip not only for the sights but also for its emotional meetings, discussions and many other aspects. Never done anything like this before. I have no words to express the roller-coaster ride that we had over the past week.

@Jeev,
Good to hear that you had a great trip. I missed to reply to your PM, sorry for that.

Looks like you have taken the Ambasamudram route. Please describe the route, road conditions, experience in detail, with some snaps. You sure have spiced up your journey a bit.
