Still take Shiradi only. Charmadi roads are good except very small sections that one can easily ignore.
But the reason to stick to Shiradi is more due to rains where Charmadi faces some challenges lime landslides that Shiradi will face less in comparison.

Thanks Parag for the useful tip. I will stick to Shiradi and hoping it doesn't rain too much!:)
Here is a short video in 2x speed of the Shiradi drive in heavy rains, over lots of potholes. At one point, an Endy in front of me suddenly turns on the hazard lights, forcing me to pass him ASAP.

Drove the bold part 2 weeks back. Roads remain good with very minor rough patches but not something one needs to worry about at all.

The land acquisition is nearing completion.
The stretch also passes through forest ranges of Uppinangady, Panja, Puttur and Bantwal.
Permission has been given for felling 10,196 trees, said Deputy Conservator of Forests V Karikalan.
A total of 3,546 trees at Shiradi, Kaukradi, Rekhya and Uppinangady villages in the Uppinangady forest range, 1,489 trees at Noojibalthila, Ichlampady, Nelyadi, Konalu villages in the Panja range, 2,239 trees at 34 Nekkilady, Bajathooru, Golithottu villages in the Puttur range and 1,747 trees at Biliyooru, Perne, Kedila, Mani, Balthila, Golthamajalu, Panemangalore Kasaba, Narikombu and Mooda villages in the Bantwal range will be felled. About 70% of the trees have already been removed.
The work on clearing boulders at Bedrodi in Addahole has also started. The road is being widened wherever trees have been removed.
L&T project manager V B Katti said flyovers would be built at Uppinangady and Kalladka as part of the road-widening. An overpass will come up at Periyashanthi on Dharmasthala Cross and Mani. In addition, a bridge will be built across Kumaradhara River and another one across the Nethravathi River at BC Road. Foot overbridges will come up at Rekhya, Nelyadi and Narikombu. A ready-mix concrete plant has come up at Golithottu and Gundya to facilitate the work.

Wonderful. Expect the already poor monsoons to deteriorate further. Very unfortunate.

I believe the pic shown here is from the crack happened during 2013 as the place shown here is almost the same as the one which I have posted below. Moreover I didn`t see any news posted is any of the local daily about any cracks.

Need to go to Hebri and beyond next weekend. Trying to figure out the best route - heva zeroed upon 2 options as of now :-
Option 1 -> Blore-Hassan-Chikmagalur-Aldur-Agumbe-Hebri
Option 2 -> Blore-Tumkur-Hiriyur-Tirthahalli-Agumbe-Hebri
Any recommendations? Has anyone been on the Option 2 route recently?

Option 1:
Many have tried and tested including me. It is going to be twisty right after Chikmagalur till Hebri and all good roads.
Option 2: This will be considerably less twister and mostly good roads too.
The default route is of course 1.
Made the mistake of driving to Sringeri, Yelemadalu to be exact on Saturday last.
It seemed like half of the folks doing a trip that weekend was headed to Hassan and beyond.
The only free stretch I got was from Chikamagalur to Yelemadalu.
Nelmangala- Hassan was one 4 lane toll road that was empty whenever I rode/drove on it. This time it was like the Bangalore - Mysore road. Things got better after Hassan , but with all the biking groups out on the road, it was like some game.
Not to forget mention a HD group who felt it very difficult to move aside and let a car overtake for some reason.
Thankfully they opened two lanes at the toll after the Elevated highway on Tumkur road without collecting toll which eased the traffic at that toll which had piled up to almost half of the elevated section.
The first toll on the Nelamangala- Hassan stretch was packed as well, thankfully rest of them were not because of many of the people stopping for breakfast in between.
On the return , came via Chikamagalur-Lingadahalli- Birur- Tumkur.
The stretch till Birur was free , but from there on being a single lane road, there was traffic both ways. This route being longer, I felt I would have taken the same time on traffic ridden Hassan route.
How is Shiradi by the way? Didnt see any updates from Aug.
I will be driving to Mangalore on Aug 24. Planning to start around 5 AM.
Any inputs on the road condition ? I will be taking Shiradi route.

Bad sections are indeed bad as per reports from few friends who took it on the Independence day long weekend.
However, this still remains your best bet to reach Mangalore as on today. Easier to drive, Wide, facilities in almost every section.
