Rode via Shiradi to Kasaragod and back today.
The land slide isn't as severe as it is portrayed in the media but anything can happen if it continues to rain like this for another week or so.
Small amount of slides along with the retainer wall all the way from Hotel Samrat in Anemahal to Maranahalli
The stretch near Doddathappale is still bad and causes a lot of jams.
Kempuhole and Addahole were flowing in all glory and the usual small falls which are generally seen during July/August are seen already! Especially the one near Railway track up in the mountains!
Concrete sections has a lot of water accumulation points and easy chance of aquaplaning and can take one by surprise!
Drive/Ride Safe folks.
Everyone, did BLR–Belman via Shiradi Ghats on May 24 and must say the route post Sakleshpur is still in shambles till Heggadde. However, it has been improved a lot, especially compared to what it was in 2024. The turn towards Dharmasthala from Periyashanthi Forest is in bad shape. Ujire to Bajagoly has a lot of patchwork, which makes the roads less inviting. Came back to BLR through Agumbe, further to Lakkavalli, and used NH 69, which is a work in progress and has a lot of bypasses till Arsikere. From Arsikere till Baragur, the roads are scenic through the Mysore Road, after which I connected to NH 75.
I travelled from Udupi to Bangalore today via Katpadi-Belman-Karkala-GVKere-Uppinangady-Shiradi-Sakleshpur. I feared closure due to landslide, but there was none of that. I think the roads much much wider compared to last year, thanks to concrete 4-laning in the landslide prone area. One risk factor is the vertically cut hill sides, they can come down if the rainfall continues like this.

Many thanks for your suggestion, I stopped at Udupi garden for lunch and it was good experience. Ample parking space, Good food and clean restroom. It was raining quite heavily and looking at my aged parents, the security allowed us to park at the entrance of the restaurant.

Was waiting for the current wave of monsoon spell to subside to drive to hometown Beejadi ( Koteshwara ).
Getting the green signal yesterday ( 31st May ), started from Bangalore ( near Jalahalli ) at 10pm. Took BLR Hassan Ckm Jayapura Hariharapura Begar Agumbe Haladi Koteshwara route. Excellent roads throughout. Reached Beejadi sharp 6am. 8 hours.
The Jayapura Narve Hariharapura Begar stretch was a welcome change. Can avoid all the winding roads around Sringeri. Jayapura to the point where it joins the koppa Hariharapura road ( just before the bridge ) is a smooth back top. Hariharapura to Begar to Agumbe is a broad smooth road.
The deviation looks longer in maps but in fact is a couple of kms shorter.
Travelled to Udupi on 24th and returned back on 31st.
Route taken during onward journey was Bengaluru - Sakleshpura - Uppinangady - Guruvayankere - Bajagoli - Udupi.
Same route during the return but through the Dharmastala instead of Uppinangadi.
The major bad stretch of road is from Sakleshpur to start of Shiradi ghat. The 4 lane work is in progress and once done should fix the roads, till then looks like it won't be fixed. No issues with landslide/landslip.
Shiradi was a delight to drive through due to the rains.

Good to see your post after a long time! :)
If you have to go via Agumbe, I would any day suggest Chitradurga-Shimoga-Agumbe.
I dont know how is the Shimoga-Thirthahali-Agmube stretch. It has remained decent.
Just finished the Blore-Mlore trip by road. Due to the recent heavy rains and the fear of land slides, we are advised to take the Blore-Mysore-Madikeri-Mlore route. This adds up about to 40 Kms. We started at 2:30PM from Sarjapur Road and reached Coorg by 7 PM. After an extended dinner break of 1 hour (we couldn't avoid savouring the Coorg local delicacies), started at 8 PM and reached Mulki by 11:30 PM. It rained heavily all throughout the last leg of the journey, but it was quiet manageable. The roads are good all throughout, until it joined the regular NH75 at Mani.
On the return journey, we took the regular route. Although it was challenging to drive through the under construction highway and back breaking stretches, we made up a lot of time once we crossed the Shiradi Ghats. I would anyday prefer this route over the other one.
Last weekend drive was a peaceful one after ages. Post Covid, weekends- Shiradi route gets quite busy and can get stressful. Hotels running out of tables, excess traffic at toll gate and crossing Nelamangala is a nightmare.
Thanks to heavy rains, school re-open, drive reminded me of pre-Covid era. 7Hrs door to door from Puttur-Whitefield with 45 min peaceful lunch break at Mayura.
While bad stretch around Sakleshpur is soon to be completed, In another year or two, Sakleshpur-Bangalore road will need 6 lane.
I had travelled to Mlore on 2nd May and I had taken the Blore-Hassan-Shiradi-Mlore route. I had started at 6 in the morning from Bannerghatta Road and I was able to reach Mlore by 12.30. It was less traffic that day as there was a call for Bandh. I returned via same route on 24th.
Compared to how the road conditions were in December when I last visited, the conditions have improved a lot. Roads between Mani and B C roads are also improving and yesterday I read that Kalladka flyover is opened on one side for vehicles. Hopefully by end of this year more work would be completed and travelling would be smoother
