Barapullah flyover - Good alternative to bypass South-Ex and Ashram Jam.

Finally while going to Mayur vihar today morning thought of taking the barapullah fly over. I only knew that entry is there from INA market or JLN stadium.
Took entry from INA. Still construction is in progress at many places but open for Cars and Light vehicles. Bus exits this road from Lodhi colony.

To my surprise i was at Sarai Kale Khan from INA under 10 minutes. It was fun riding through this flyover which is almost 9 km long.

I think they are making exits and entries from defence colony too. This is a very good road to bypass the Ashram, Lajpat Nagar and South Ex traffic. Zip to AIIMS in just 10 minutes.

For Noida residents who work in Gurgaon this flyover is real boon but not many know about it. Even in the newspapers it was said that its the best thing that could've happened to people wanting to avoid South Ex, Lajpat Nagar and Ashram jam while going to Noida.

The road does not show up on any GPS or on Google maps, and I finally mapped it on Waze. Here's the screenshot.

trying to revive an old thread here.
Tell me, does it make sense to use the Barapullah if I am commuting from gurgaon to mayur vihar 1, and my usual route is the ring road-dnd?

By taking left from AIIMS flyover, you can avoid traffic jams at South Extension, Lajpat Nagar and Ashram (Maharani Bagh). If its in the evening (between 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM), then you can save around 30 - 40 mins time. The traffic jam at Maharani Bagh goes up to Lajpat Nagar sometimes.

But if you take left towards Africa Avenue from ring road after GAIL / Hyatt building, you can avoid (in addition to above) heavy rush before AIIMS flyover too.

Cheers!

Just for your reference, my folks stay at one end of the BRT. It is FASTER for them to divert to barapullah to reach nizamuddin most days (except 7am or so), than to go via BRT

Re: Barapullah flyover - Good alternative to bypass South-Ex and Ashram Jam.

Ok, so I took Shanti path, and got into sarojini nagar from naval school side.
Laxmibai nagar, behind kotla, and joined up from lodhi road.
U turn from sarai kale khan(no traffic for the U turn!!)
DND, home.
once I hit the last red light at lodhi road, it took about 15 minutes before I reached the red light after the mayur vihar DND exit.
This was FANTASTIC!!
It took me about 10 minutes more only than the time it used to take me to get to pandara park!

Will be trying again for the route to office in gurgaon on monday.

Again reviving this thread...

Question for Delhi locals. What is the status of Phases 2 & 3 of this road..??

Is the construction completed for its connection to Aurobindo Marg (or beyond)..? or Railways have still not approved the ROB at Sewanagar?.

Asking these questions as I will be visiting India at the end of the year and was plotting my travel routes.

Thanks in advance.

Now the problem is that the Jam which was hurting Ashram has shifted to Jangpura area were the traffic merge from Barapullah after Defence Colony flyover.

Hopefully some part will be up soon. As of now, there is no clarity. However, what IS up apart from the original stretch is the DND exit when coming from Delhi. For getting on the flyover from noida side, you have to do the whole sarai kale khan thing, bit when going back, it spits you out right at the DND entry in delhi.
For the jangpura lajpat nagar pieces, perhaps some one else can comment, since I have never used that.

By the way, the name Barapulla does not refer to the number twelve.
It is Bada-pulla (large flyover).

I believe it refers to a 12 pillared, older pull(Hindi).

Nope. This was a nullah (drain) carrying storm water from south and central Delhi to the river, and it had 12 bridges at different points for people to cross. Hence the name.

Edit: Those heading east and taking the exit for DND Flyway, do mind your speed, since the curves on the exit portion of this section are extremely sharp & steep, and not well marked.
