Dear friends-I will be doing Chennai- nagapattinam next weekend.If anyone can throw some light on the current pondicherry- nagapattinam road conditions after the monsoon battering.I will be driving an i10.Any other route suggestions is also welcome.I dont mind driving an alternate longer route as long as the roads are good.

I heard of some damage around Chidambaram, but this is not confirmed

Add to it the usual problem of slow moving traffic
Many villages and village folks a on the road beyond Pondicherry.

News: An old bridge has collapsed/losts its strength at T.R.Pattinam. Diversion is expected. This info was telecast-ed as alert by Java plus Channel till midnight.

How is the road status beyond Tranquebar onwards to Nagapattinam?
Any deterioration for the whole stretch? Any upgrades planned?

I just visited nagapattinam from karaikal town. Its an approximately 6kms of diversion through narrow roads(1 lane ideal for tractors) along rice fields of Neravy limiting to 2-3rd gears. The mini roads are identical conditions as Sirkhali or worse depending on wet weather :Frustrati

Route: After crossing Karaikal Beach Road, river bridge, drive along till reaching 2nd Fuel station(located at left), Turn right towards Neravy (Oil & Natural Gas Corp). Go straight "all the way" following sign boards of diversion along the way. Village locals are helpful if lost in the maze:D even though all cars and suv's are using this route which you can follow the convoy. 6km of diversion will drive you towards Thittacherry(turn left from the exit of diversion roads).

Note:Its advisable not to travel through diversions after 6pm due to road conditions.

The weaken bridge in T.R.Pattinam has been fixed. Cars & buses are allowed except heavy vehicles. Have a good trip people.

Take the Tindivanam route for going to Pondy. Much faster & safer route!

Is this bridge in the new Nagapttinam bypass? Or in the road leading into Nagore & Nagapattinam when you are coming from Karaikal side?

I think, this week bridge is the one which lies some 10 kms from Karaikal towards Nagore.

Guys..How long does it take to travel to velankanni from chennai in a car with sufficient breaks?
How are the road conditions now?

Its about 320km with Pondicherry right at the center. But till Pondicherry you should be able to cover in 2 to 2.5 hours max (You should take the 4L, 45 and 66).

Its from Pondicherry the delay starts on the ECR. This half which I think should about 4 to 4.5 hours owing to bad traffic and 2L road, wading through villages.

Chennai - Chidambaram can be done in 3.5 hrs. Beyond Chidambaram, the road condition is not so good which will take around 3 - 3.5 hrs, depending upon the time of travel.
