Hi!
Can anyone please advise the road condition between Tirupati and Hyderabad via Kadapa-->Kurnool ?
Is coming via Nellore-->Ongole-->Suryapet a better option ?
Any options for food/rest rooms on either routes ?
thanks

I have just returned from a Hyd - TPTY round trip. The road between Kurnool and Nandyal is a lot better though not yet complete. Nandyal - Kadapa is 98% 4 laned and there are two toll gates operational. Chagalamarri - Rs 60, Kadapa Rs 30.
Kadapa - TPTY is a 2 laned road and the surface is mostly good. However there are multiple speed breakers.
I left TPTY at 10 AM, Reached my house in Tarnaka, Hyd by 6.30 PM. Took a break of 30 min at Nandyal for refueling and rest.
Hi Srimath,
Thanks for the info mate.
Iam planning Tirupati trip with my wife and two kids in June second week using my Bolt car.
I am not expecting the road to be in perfect flat condition but from your comments I feel, you managed to reach Hyderabad quiet quickly and 90% good road condition compared to past.
Please could share little experience mate.
Thanks & Regards,
Rama
I travelled to Tirupathi via. Vellore and below is the feedback for route and it's conditions
Hyd-Devenhalli-Sulibele-Hoskote-Kolar-Mulbagal-Palamner-Vellore
Hyderabad-Devenhalli (4 lane Bangalore highway)
Took a left from Devenhalli to Hoskote (2 lane)
Suliebel-Hoskote is 2 lane and lot of speedbreakers
Hoskete to Kolar is all 4 lane
Kolar to Mulbagal-Palamner is 2 lane and with some ghat sections and its beautiful landscape
Total of 720kms and we covered it in 10 hours with 2 breaks (Breakfast at Food Pyramid and Lunch at McDs at Kolar)
We started at 7:00pm from Golden Temple to Tirupathi and took a diversion of 20kms for a visit to Kanipakam Temple and reached our hotel in Tirupathi (Fortune Kences) at 10:00pm
This section took us 3 hours covering 150kms
In a single day, we covered 870kmsclap:
Yesterday (March 20th, 2017) drove back from Tirupathi to Hyderabad
Started at 1:10pm from the parking lot of Fortune Kences, Tirupathi and reached the ORR at Hyderabad Airport at 8:30pm.
We were heading out for dinner so not calculating the time door to door which would have been another 30 minutes or so...
It took us 7 hour, 20 minutes from Tirupathi to Hyderabad:)
Well, that says a lot about the massive improvements done to the roads on this sector
Tirupathi to Kadapa (140 kms) : It was broad 2-lane type of road with beautiful forests on both sides but, with several speedbreakers enroute
Kadapa to Nandyal (120 kms) : This is such a glorious 4-lane road and reminded me of Bangalore-Hyderabad stretch. Simply brilliant
Nandyal-Kurnool (75kms) : Nandyal town onwards for about 30kms its bad with lot of bad roads and heavy traffic and it will take sometime to get out of the section as road construction is underway so little bit of diversion is there. But, once you are out of that 30kms range, until Kurnool its superb road with dividers and snaking through the ghats with lovely views around until you reach Kurnool
Kurnool-Hyderabad (210kms) : This is a well known route but, as usual there was quite a bit of traffic last evening on this route
It's really heartening to know the road improvements and that Tirupathi is just 8 hours away:thumbs up

Amazing improvement in connectivity to Tirupathi. It used to take 11 to 12 hrs from Hyderabad to Tirupathi.
Sometimes because of bad roads I used to take Cuddapah -Raychoty- Pileru- Tirupathi route which passes through the trekking path Srivari Mettu to Tirumala
Thanks for the info clap:clap:

This is the Pileru-Rayachoti route or Koduru-Rajampet route? I've taken the latter from Renigunta which fits your description. Travel time was about 2 hrs.
Infact one Kurnool-Nandyal is done. It provides a good alternative to Madras-Hyderabad too. One could take Tiruttani/Naidupeta-Renigunta-Kadapa-Nandyal-Kurnool.
For the onward, there was also an option to do Devanahalli-Vijayapura-Kolar. This route was totally devoid of speed breakers.

Kurnool to Nandyal is about 75kms and out of which almost 45kms is completed with smooth tarmac and has a divider running through all of this stretch
30kms before Nandyal and Nandyal town is still little messy and when this last stretch completes it would be an amazing route for people travelling to Tirupathi/Chennai from Hyderabad

Do you suggest that doing Kurnool - Nandyal - Kadapa - Chittoor is better than Kurnool - Devanahalli - Kolar - Chittoor ? And worth saving 70 odd km as well as 400 odd toll ?
Once the whole stretch completes, it will be an interesting choice. But having said that Chittoor-Kurnool I think is a truck corridor as compared to NH7? That way NH7 seems like an option which is low of traffic?
But of course then there lies sections of 2-lane and the infamous Mulbagal-Chitoor 2-lane to be covered.

Aren't there toll booths on the first route? In that case the savings may not be Rs 400/-.

That is the difference of amount saved / spent extra on tolls.

Kurnool - Nandyal - Kadapa - Rayachoti - Chitoor is shorter than Kurnool - Devanahalli - Kolar - Chitoor by 120 kms. The Devenahalli route makes sense for Vellore where the difference is 70 KM and time is same. For Chitoor, the Nandyal route is faster and shorter.
Traveled to Tirupathi last weekend.
Hyderabad To Kurnool
Four laned all the way.The bypass to the Kurnool to the Nandyal road is not complete.
So passed through the Kurnool town.
Kurnool to Panyam.
Four laned
Panyam to Battaluru
Four laning is going on with Diversions.Nandyal town traffic slowed down the progress.
Battaluru to Cuddapah.
Four laned throughout with toll bypassing all the towns.
Cuddapah to Tirupathi
2 laned highway as I traveled in the evening traffic was on the higher side.
Occasional rough patches.
Lots of speed breakers nearing all the places enroute.Need to slow down.
On the whole fantastic improvements of the highway.
Kurnool bypass and completion of four lane after Nandyal will make the drive better.
3 pm Shamshabad airport reached Tirupathi 10pm with 20mins break at Ontimitta temple after Cuddapah
Had my occomodation at Tirumala and had to drive with minimal stops as the Tirumala ghat section closes by 11.30pm
Thanks to mobike008 for updating the thread otherwise thought of driving via Ongole and Nellore

Kallur to Puttalapattu.
Road widening is going on with lots of diversions and some stretches are only gravel. Traffic is high on this route.

Completed a return trip to Tirupati. Onward was on thursday and ddint check the Kurnool Bypass.
Return drive was on saturday and near the entry of Kurnool bypass, saw a few local vehicles using it. The entry to the bypass was blocked hence took a dirt track to enter the bypass and exit it on the Blr highway. It took me 4 min to bypass kurnool. clap:
The condition of the rest of the route remains same.
Started at Tirupati at 9.10AM and reached my home in Tarnaka at 6.10PM with a 45 min break at food pyramid for lunch and 3 more nature/tea breaks.
Total toll paid was 310*2 = 620
Raikal Rs 60
Shakapur Rs 55
Pullur Rs 100
Chagalamarri Rs 65
Palempalli Rs 30
Used Fastag.

So onward you went through Kurnool town? How long did that take?
As regards the return, how long was the dirt track till you reached the bypass? Is that dirt track visible at night? And where does the bypass meet the Bangalore highway?
