Vadodara-Rourkela route/road guidance

I plan to drive from Vadodara to Rourkela (Orissa). Did a bit of search and found that the route could be Vadodara-Surat on NH8, Surat-Dhule-Jalgaon-Bhusawal-Nagpur-Raipur-Sambalpur on NH6 followed by a short stretch on NH23 to Rourkela. Need advice on road conditions and alternate route suggestions.
