Help needed : Attempting SaddleSore 1000

Dear Friends

I am planning to ride the SaddleSore 1000 in the month of March 2011. I need guidelines on the highway, I will start riding from Fountain Hotel, Mumbai >> NH8 towards Udaipur. Take U-Turn back to Mumbai after few KMS passing by Swaminarayan Mandir on NH8 which is about 804 KMS.
I need to know the difficulties I may face on this route. I would also like to have details of all the Credit Card accepting Fuel Pumps, ATM’s, McDonalds on this route.

All information, suggestions and advices are welcome.

Cheers T-BHPians.

Hey ! Best of luck on your endeavour. I am still new to biking but I guess I do have a passion for it (comes a bit from my dad, he used to BLR-MUM non-stop). Still on my gearless license, but have done ~11k kms in 14 months.

Anyways, back to the topic, I am interested to know about the bike you plan to use for this trip. Any superbike, a tourer or an Indian one?

Traffic is very high from Ghodbunder to Surat, also thanks to the road widening work. Best time to leave Fountain would be noon when traffic is the least. Alternatively, at 9 pm at night.

CRedit Card pumps - there is a HPCL at Ankleshwar.
Reliance on expressway also accepts cards, but then you have to use the old NH8.
There are a few pumps after Ratanpur after entering Rajasthan who accept cards, and also the big pumps entering Udaipur.

McDonald's is there 8 kms outside Vapi.

There are many SBI ATMs en route, but have no directory of them.

Re: Help needed : attempting SaddleSore 1000

From what I know printed receipts do work (accepted at IBA) which mention time/date and the location of fuel-pump.

Try Google-ing a bit.

Best wishes for your ride.

+ 1. Why not try this route? Its tried and tested!

I believe IBA also accepts ATM receipts as proof. So, you just dont have to worry about fuel pumps with card facility. However, you do need two witnesses at the starting, turnaround and finishing points, right?

All the best and RIDE SAFE with proper gear! Remember, saddlesore is not more important than your life.

Re: Help needed : attempting SaddleSore 1000

Given the condition of the traffic till Surat, would sincerely advise going down south on NH4 rather than up north on NH 8. Your chances of making the run are much higher.
Also contact Tigerranch (GTO sent a link on the post above) aka Kishor Chabria for a first hand insight.

Have you done it? If not I would suggest start from Lonavla, ride till Tumkur and turn back.
