Re: Kodaikanal - Munnar - Waynad route queries

The roads are very much open and in drive-able conditions. I traveled in May last. Only thing bothering you at this time would be the rains and the mud is loose on the corners, so never drive too close to the edge. Also, if you are doing this road for the first time, be very cautious as there are lot of blind curves.
Otherwise, this is a very scenic drive compared to the usual Dindigul-Kodai road.

I thought of updating the details from my trip.

Onward Route :
Cochin (Kakkanad) -> Puthencruz -> Kothamangalam -> Adimaly -> Munnar -> Pooppara -> Bodi ->Theni -> Periyakulam -> Kodaikanal

Total distance : ~298KMs
Time Taken : 10 hours including lot of food and click breaks
Road Condition : 8/10

Return Route :
Kodaikanal -> Periyakulam -> Theni -> Bodi -> Pooppara -> Rajakad -> Adimaly -> Kothamangalam -> Puthencruz -> Kakkanad

Total distance : ~283KMs
Time Taken : 9 hours including food and many click breaks
Road Condition : 7/10

Only issue is that there are good number of narrow stretches on ghats and blind curves on inclines. Reasonably experienced driver is a must for safe travel

Jacs,

How was the Pooppara -> Rajakad -> Adimaly section which bypasses Munnar.
If thats good, then it provides a nice alternative from Ernakulam side to TN.

Hey Ampere,

Hope you are good.

Pooppara -> Rajakad -> Adimaly has sparse traffic and quite scenic agriculture rich villages on the way. I was on Xylo and this route was a breeze. I loved it. Roads are narrow in many stretches and has many steep inclines too. May be some 5KMs just before hitting Munnar - Adimaly main road had large potholes.
