Mumbai Aurangabad

Is anyone familiar with the Mumbai Aurangabad route through Pune? I will be driving down there the next weekend. Any tips? Which stretch to avoid, what time to start etc.

I have the road from Aurangabad to Pune on my bike. But that was close to two years ago and things must have changed. The Nashik route is mostly out of question, because I might have to pick up a friend. I planning to start from Mumbai late at night or very early in the morning.

There is supposedly a link road which bypasses Pune completely. You still have to come by Mumbai-Pune, but somewhere near Kamshet(?) there is bypass road which links directly to Pune-Nagar road.

Nope. Last time, I travelled to Aurangabad, was 3 years back. Now, I mostly travel on 4 lane NH4

dont do late in the night ..as the pune aurangabad road has on coming traffic ...and it had diversions the last time i had gone on it ...and had seen many accidents ...better to drive early in the morning ,say 4-5 am ..so that u do that stretch in daylight

drive safe

Did this last year in May during the Airtel Rally. We went through the Chakan route, bypassing Pune. But, got stuck in a major jam there, so not really sure about any advantage to that route. Roads are mainly dual lane highway, well surfaced (atleast before the rains) but as SS said, not to be done at night as you'd be blind by the end of it.

It took us a leisurely 6 hours to do it, but that was because of the strict limits we had to abide by for the rally. Should take you half that time.
