Re: Trip to Manali

Hi Everyone,

I am planning a trip to Manali in New Years' eve time (Dec 29 to 3rd Jan). Can someone recommend a good hotel/cottage to stay there. Looking at various websites, I am getting too confused. I want a hotel which is near to Solang Valley and apart from good ambiance, view they should offer good food and activities for kids. Your experience and inputs will be valuable.

Thanks!!

Re: Trip to Manali

Friends,

I am planning a Himachal trip in XUV 500 from Mumbai in April 2nd week. I wanted an update on the road conditions from Chandigarh to Manali, Manali to Chail and Chail to Delhi.

While I am comfortable driving long distances, my family was a bit skeptical on the skills required for driving on the treacherous roads on Chandigarh - Manali - Shimla sectors. Any specific tips for these especially to manage the driving in the hills.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Ashish

Re: Trip to Manali

We are planning a 7 nights – 8 days trip to Manali in the end of May. I am a regular visitor till Kiratpur Sahib as we take a bi-monthly trip to Naina Devi till Chamunda therefore am well versed about roads till Kiratpur Sahib. What I am not aware of is what lies ahead from Kiratpur Sahib till Manali i.e. what is the road condition in the hills. I’ve heard that it will take around 13-14 hours with 2 stop-overs (or even more as we have 3 kids around the age of 2 along) to reach Manali.

The vehicle of choice is a 2014 make Mahindra Scorpio. Any update on the route and things to do in and around Manali will be really appreciated.

Thanks and regards!

We did Delhi-Kasauli-Shimla in January on bikes and the roads are great.

Few things you ought to keep in mind while driving on hills - be patient; be comfortable with the speed you are doing; Absolutely no overtaking attempt on curves; and respect the the right of way for vehicles (specially heavy ones) doing uphill, make way for them.

For detailed info, you can go through http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/fo...dos-donts.html at leisure and soak the details.

Have fun and be safe!

Re: Trip to Manali

Reviving an old thread guys as I am planning to do a trip to Manali from Gurgaon during second week of February by road. Also I am planning to do Gurgaon - Manali in a single day with an early start and I'll be driving my XUV 5OO with my better half (WIFEY). So need some inputs and information for the same.
1. Does it usually snow in Manali during that period (2nd week of feb)?
2. Does anyone know the current road conditions to Manali, did someone visit Manali recently who can put more light on this?
3. What are the places that we can visit in Manali or maybe nearby?
4. Any suggestions for good and decent accommodations?
5. Any suggestions on places for journey breaks for lunch, tea etc.
5. Last not the least Which route to take? I am planning to take the following route as of now, but please let me know if there is a better route than this.

Gurgaon-Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat-Ambala-Chandigarh-Kirtpur Sahib-Swarghat-Bilaspur-Ghagas-Mandi-Sundernagar-Bhunter-Kullu-Manali.
