Trichy Chidambaram by road

Can anyone provide input on how much time it might take to go from Trichy to Chidambaram by road? The distance is about 140km on the map - but need to plan an itenerary so knowing how much time it will actually take to go and back will help.

Thanks

Re: Trichy Chidambaram by road

The best route would be Trichy-Paluvur-Jayankondam-Chidambaram. Total of 154 Kms. It should take around 3 hours for you to reach. If you are visiting the temple at Chidambaram, your trip duration may be around 3 hrs+2 hrs+3 hrs+ buffer 2 hrs = 10 Hours.

What is the state of Jayamkondam-Trichy road? Which are the good places to break?
Can it be done at nights?

Re: Trichy Chidambaram by road

Went by taxi from Trichy to Chidambaram on 25th April.
Left Trichy Williams Road around 4:30AM - it was raining pretty much throughout the day. We drove carefully and reached Chidambaram only around 9-9:15AM.
The roads were by far fairly poor - not too badly potholed, but damaged enough to slow down most vehicles.
We went on a 2 lane road throughout (not sure which route). Also, there was a long procession of some kind with people walking on the left side of the road (our side) nearly 30-40 km along the way - this slowed us down a lot since the vehicle had to stop everytime there was oncoming traffic to allow each other to pass.

Chidambaram was a most divine experience.
Stopped at Vaideeswaran Kovil on the way back and at the Mamaangam lake in Kumbakonam. We got into the Thanjavur Brihadeeswarar temple in time late afternoon when they opened and then closed the day with a trip to Srirangam temple.

Great trip overall - thanks for all help.

Re: Trichy Chidambaram by road

I am planning to visit Vaitheeswaran Temple, Thirunallar Temple and Garbarakshambigai (Thirukarugavur) from Trichy. I plan to start in the morning and return to Trichy by night. The route I intend following is http://goo.gl/maps/CbU3E.

Updates on road conditions and approximate driving time would help. Also, how safe are these routes for night travel.

Thanks!
