Hi Team,
I need your brilliant suggestion to buy my new car for highway use,
I am confused between Sedan and SUV (MPV ..) so could not decide which
one to go. My first priority is rear seat comfort for me / my parents or whoever
travels in my family.
It will be Chauffer driven
It should be Petrol Car.
Price range -> upto 12 lacs.
It should ride very smooth even on bad roads.
My parents or my family will be travellors
At least 8 years I would like to keep this CAR.
I am 6 footer also my family, so rear seat leg room should be very good
Monthly around 1000KM expected travel.
Cars short listed -> Innova Petrol, Tata Indigo Petrol, Optra 1.6, Fiat Petra, Safari, Corolla, Fiesta 1.4 petrol and any other you suggest :)
Thanks in advance,
Ravi.
PS If already similar thread exists please let me know!
dear friend,
As you have mentioned, u are a 6 footer. So, is everyone else in your family...good !!!!! Innova Petrol matches both recordable style, mileage, substance composite with the goodlooks; and is a very good average giver in the highway too.You should go for it considering the 1000KM monthly average of your travelling needs.
But if you are interested in a smaller budget ,high-performance car; then agree: that you should go in for the NEWEST MARUTI SWIFT VXI--2006 LIMITED EDITION of the Golden Colour. I would not recommend anything else, bye....for now.
Yours:= abtak
Smiley Police have been here !!!
ravibhat,
If it is going to be chauffeur driver then Innova would be a great
bet. I am a couple of inches shorter than 6 feet and I was quite
comfortable on third seat, the middle row was fantastic.
abtak,
Rear seat of swift is good for those who are a couple of feet smaller
than six. As an aside, you have way too many smileys in your post and smiley-police is gonna get you soon :)
Out of your choices, my preference order:
1 Corolla
2 Innova Petrol
3 Optra 1.6
4 Safari
5 Fiesta 1.4 petrol
6 Fiat Petra,
7 Tata Indigo Petrol
Ravi, You can also consider Fiat Adventure 1.6, an excellent Family Car, a real pleasure to drive it on the Highways. Plus excellent Ride comfort, solid Build Quality, Spacious, killing looks etc. Test drive it, am sure you would fall for it.

Finnyep,
I dont know about Adventure, but i have travelled extensively in back seat of Palio 1.2 elx. The car is great no doubt, built like a tank and great ride.
BUT i havnt found the backseat too comfortable. The legroom is nothing great compared to say Indica. The seats lack support. The design of front seats furthur puts pressure on knees of a 5,11 guy like me if inclined back. Headroom also not good for tall people. Dont know how different is Adventure/Petra though.
And since the guy got 12 lacs to spare he certainly deserves better. Corolla due to its MPVish height does not make it too difficult for tall drivers/passengers.
if ur budget is upto 12L it should either be the BLACK INNOVA "V" or the Corolla/Civic

Your first priority is best rear seat comfort and space upto 12lacs which is a petrol.
Tata safari Petrol fully loaded. The best comfort I felt in a car. Fuel efficiency will be mediocre. If a design upgrade has not been carried out,The rear seat blower on the drivers head reduces headspace for 6-footers, but as you said it will be chaffeured. Innova petrol as far as I know has bombed.
Hyundai Sonata( many people claim to have got the car for 12). not exactly a sales buster and you may loose money in resale. power is good at 165 and so is space.
Chevrolet Optra 1.8/1.6 elite. the best and most comfortable interiors in its class. exudes quality feel. Engine is relaxed and is not fun to drive, but stable at highspeeds.
For a smaller car Indigo/Marina make more sense than fiesta and petra if comfort and space are a priority. petrol engine is unrefined and rough but FE. As its going to be a chaffeur driven car, you can look at one.

Hi Ravi !!
Confused between SUV and Sedan .. why not have a mix of both and with an exceptional built, performance, ride and comfort and at the same time save half the money from your defined budget.
Moreover knowing that Petra features in your list of probables so i have no hesitation in introducing this beast to you.
This beauty is known as FIAT ADVENTURE.
Cheers.
Thanks guys for wonderfull feedback, When I travelled I felt very comfortable in Rear seat of Innova, Safari, Indigo. Will try other vehicles like Adventure, Sonata etc.. I will continue to do research and decide in couple of months. You can see my Swift VXI in my profile here. I am soon posting my car's picture soon.
Thanks again,
Ravi.
also do check out the new Fusion. I have read in reviews and tests that space and comfort is among the best.

Your requirements has "fiat adventure" written all over it...but then I wonder if it will be a good chauffer driven car.. cos the best place to sit in it is the drivers seat :)
As the previous post mentioned, you could consider the fusion.... but since your budget is twice the amount for the cars being discussed here...not sure if I am giving you the right choices rl:
I will check out New Fusion too, saw couple of civic today looks elder brother of NHC. I heard Corolla is more comfortbale in back seat than Civic. "Honda cars best on best roads bad on bad roads" thats what many people told me.
Ravi.
Among all the cars that have been listed, I would say go for the Optra 1.6. Take the high end version (Royale I think) and avoid the 1.8- the 1.6 is a much smoother engine.
Since your car will be chauffer driven, you would not notice the little sluggish engine. The optra has a plush ride and a very comfy back seat. Plus it looks much more expensive than it actually is!
Another good choice is the Petrol Innova. U can get some real good deals on it (last i checked Toyota dealers were giving 50K off- plus the car is about a lakh cheaper than the diesel to start with). the car has a real good ride and is very comfy-esp teh captain chair equipped V version.
Even though I am a fiat lover and owner, i wouldnt advise you to go in for the adventure or the petra since these are driver oriented cars and you will not be able to derive max pleasure of owning these cars from the rear seat!
I would also not recommend the corolla to you since I have found the corolla to be quite uncomfortable over bad roads and the build quality is nothing special!
Happy driving
