2nd hand: City or Baleno or Ikon

My dear fellow BHPians,
I am planning to buy a used car
I have rallied down to either a City(1.5l) or a Baleno or an Ikon
My budget is around 3 lakhs but willing to stretch till 3.5lakhs

Looking forward for a 2002-2003 model @ Bangalore run around 40-60K Kms
Since not many City's were available I thought of jumping into a Baleno.

Please let me know whether a 02-03 model Baleno is good enough.

My requisites:
Will use it for 2-3 years (at the max)
Should fetch me a decent price while selling. (yeah... they all are not produced anymore)
Would use it for around 1-2K Kms a month
wanna have some fun while driving........ so BHP is an issue

Please do let me know guys
Thanks

Ikon will be the cheapest buy in the used car market followed by the Baleno and then the OHC type 2.

I will pick up the OHC VTEC from the list.

Among the choices Baleno would be the best buy.

Vtec may be out of your budget, Baleno will be nice buy if you get it for 3 lacs, Other option can be Corsa/siena/petra if you are really looking for good power and build quality.

Of the above Vtec will fetch you good resale followed by baleno

In my order of preference,

1. Baleno > +last of the list to be end of life +A.S.S +KPL +can get a low mileage/recent model (VFM) -dated looks
2. OHC > +A.S.S +KPL
3. IKON 1.6 > +Fun to drive -A.S.S -KPL
4. Fiat Petra 1.6 > +power +built to last +engine/transmission still in use (Fiat Stile 1.6) - A.S.S -KPL (see if you can get hold of a Adventure)

PS: You wouldnt be losing much on resale as the depreciation on a used car is negligible.

The 1.3 Ikon is still under production. I presume you were refering to the 1.6 - whose engine is in production for Ford's other models.

Tough choice between the 3 - I think for sheer VFM, lowered cost of purchase and low maintenance costs you should get a Baleno. The only caveat is its even lower resale value when you sell it

Honda City would be a good option.Looks the best out of the three...Best resale value also out of the three. And matches the performance of the Baleno 1.6

Your chances of finding a OHC (good one) at this price is pretty grim mate.

Have been checking around on a good deal for a well maintained OHC and every deal that we have found stalls at a price tag around 4 odd lacs.
All the OHC's we found (well maintained) have exuberant price quotes.

Like everyone mentioned OHC will fetch you a dream price on re-sale.

Honestly would suggest that you head out and look for a Baleno. You sure will be lucky with the baleno search coz there are umpteen number of 2nd hand baleno's available in town.

Goddy we have been looking only at the 1.5's and the v-tec's.

Can you believe we almost fixed a deal on a v-tec at 3.8 lacs and later got to know that the car was involved in a hit and run case earlier.

Worst the dealer was very keen on selling it to us and kept calling us to know the status .Was plain lucky to know about this and we called off the deal.

Just head out and enquire, you will know what I am saying. Any car(v-tec) with service records and maintained well doesn't sell less than 4 odd lacs.

that was lucky you found out about the hit and run case..
Before i bought the Dicor i was looking for some 2nd hand cars.. came across a limited edition black colour going for like 3.6 complete paperwork.. not a scratch on car.. also some vtec for 4.5 to 6L
1.3 were a dime-a-dozen..was not interested.
If i were to bargain on the limited edition and the vtec na i could have easily got him down atleast 30K to 40K each man.
