hi friends,

I want to have a big second hand car for a very cheap price ... and my requirements are:

- will be using more on short highway runs (150+150 km's every week ends to my home town) and 30 kms every day in city.
- dont want any comfort feature, the car should run in decent speed. upto 90km/hour in highway would suffice (ofcourse shouldn't break down)
- decent fuel economy (diesel) (pref 10 km/lit)
- please: pardon me for giving me such whole lot of limitations, the reason being i have just started earning and have BBBIIIIGGGG dreams on car ... and the only BBBIIIIGGGG car which fits my budget is used ford escort. i think i can get 8 year old one for less than 1.25L (what'd you say) ... and in that case can i go careless.
- People say spares are not possible to get for Ford Escort... is it impossible or will become a big problem that it would halt the car in case of any repairs. (i'm using Yamaha RX100 but still my mechanic is able to fix all probs and get spares)

Do post all your valuable advices (ofcourse, blames are welcome) ... eagerly waiting to hear :)

My friend purchased a Escort 1999 model for 50k with power windows, steering and central locking. The vehicle is a 1.6l Petrol engine. the only issue is with his front axles which is now costing him 17000. U can certainly go for this car but 1.35 is more than double the price also if you buy this car you need to take very good care of it as the spares aren't available even if you wanna pay a fortune.

If the car is in good condition, it is worth a look. Ford support would be limited to servicing. If you go to the UK a lot. Worth stocking up on parts as they are cheap. Diesel should be ok since same engine is in the Ikon.

just be mentally prepared to scrap car if costs get excessive. If you have the energy to sell the body panels and key sub components separately and sell the remaining bits as scrap, you might recover initial cost!

1.25 you could get a used ikon. I sold my Ford Escort for 25000/- . Resale aint that goodl. Its a little heavy on spares and ok to maintain.

Go in for a Maruti. Iam sure you'll find something nice in 75k.An esteem maybe.

Thats incredible. This seems the price for an old Fiat or Amby. Are you sure you sold it for 25K ?:Shockked: I never knew that the resale value of the Escort was so bad !

About a year back, an acquaintance bought a single owner escort LX for 90k.
About a couple months back, the water pump packed. It costed 15k and they tried using alternate water pumps. But, it didnt work.
Finally, they scrapped the car for 45k. :)

I am sure you will get a used esteem in your budget - that way you should not be having problems with maintaining the car. Used Ford Escort - I will stay away from it.

I own diesel ford escort 98 model Lx . I would suggest stay away from ford they are to expensive on pocket and not worth it .

Why don't you consider Amby? BIIIIIGGGG car :-)

Yes. Waited for a month to sell. Found no buyers. Most said we dont want to touch it. Few offered around 25k. So sold it. But it was a great car to drive. 1.6 petrol. Had a/c,power windows, power steering etc.

A second hand buy is a BIG NO NO!! They normally say if you have an ENEMY gift him an escort.

Nothing above 60K for a Ford escort, even in the most immaculate condition. Maybe 80K if brand new.

You just gave every friend a reason to be an enemy :uncontrol

manson.

for 1.25 you can get a 98 / 99 Lancer in ok condition bro. may need to spend around 5 - 10k to get it serviced from a decent garage. Would be money well spent compared to an escort.

I suggest you drop the escort idea and hunt around a little more.

Yup, look for a car that is still in production or that has just gone out of production.
I sold my 7 yr old Escort diesel for 1.35 l in 2005, it had about 120,000 km on the odo. The car is a real comfortable drive, but that's all it has going for it.
