If family is going to use it, you can look at an automatic car, it would be very comfortable to drive in traffic and even otherwise.
Honda Civic AT, Skoda Ocatavia automatic TDi (best VFM-but is a bit old design with tank quality build)
Im not aware of other automatics, if guys know, please add in.

Automatic is best way to go when there is multiple users in family. It will help users in great way because car will adjust for everyone's driving style and every one can be happy with the car!

I suggest NHC AT(best for city use), Civic AT(overall best luxury). Next comes Corolla AT (my first choice however, ideal luxury) because I prefer Toyota than Honda for Indian condition.

You can look out for new Fiat cars to be launched shortly.

Regards,

Ravi.

4. Wait for Fait Diesel cheers:

Civic AT would be my choice since I have one. Ideal to potter around town and zoom if you want to. Lots of power, very stable and the Honda badge means you get good resale value. Its a 5 speed too.

Corolla AT is also good. No need to write about Japanese cars and Toyota in particular. Only drawback is that its a 4 speed auto and is certainly very old. New version would be out this year due to which you might not be able to command good resale value.

Skoda has bad back seat space compared to the two above. Expenses are definitely higher.

I would also suggest you have look at the Skoda Laura - Ambiente.
Should be within your budget and leagues ahead of the Octavia in every aspect.

The Civic AT fits your requirements to the T. Search around the forum for some ownership reviews.

Civic AT no doubt - awesome looks and power, reliability, low maintenance, best resale in its class; can be used by anyone in the family being a AT and it'll be a plus for you especially in the city relating to stress free driving

If you wish to buy soon then the Civics your best bet. If you can and are willing to wait then the new Corolla is around the corner.
No confirmed dates of launch yet. There are pics of the new corolla released in other countries somewhere on the forum, check it out,if its something you fancy then it worth the wait.
