Hi all,

A friend of mine is planning to buy a second hand Opel Corsa (8 yrs old) for Rs. 1.5 L. It is a well maintained vehicle.

So what is your opinion on the cost? Second clarification required is regarding the availability of spare parts since production of Corsa has been stopped?

First, the price is wayyyy too high. There are practically no takers for the corsa. So actually your friend is doing the seller a huge favour by taking it off his hands. my suggestion would be to drop the idea & look for a better car.

Corso spares were hardly available when Opel brand was there in India.

My suggestion - 50 to 80k is the max you should be shelling out for something like that.

Opel corsa is a nice car but spares availability and pricing will be a BIG problem.
Also 1.5L is way tooo high.. 80K is a fair price.

70-80k max. Nothing more than that no matter how well maintained the car is.

I agree with all the members Corsa for 1.5 lacs is way too high.
Nothing beyond 75k. That too GM's maintenance will be too high so try negotating for 50 % atleast.

Agree with Arpan......we had a corsa 1.6 2001 model...i remember spares were a huge problem and expensive too.......finally sold it for a meagre 1.3L...

1.5 L for a 8 year old Corsa. Can I interest you in a Oct 2003 1.4 Corsaplease: for lesser than that. Frankly, Corsa is a decent car, but it is a buyer's market, and a 8-year old Corsa should not sell for more than 60-70K. If it is maintained well, then pay 70-80K, because parts availability (when required) is an issue. So is GM's service quality.

Only thing I will suggest you is Dont Buy A Corsa, If your friend cant afford the cost of spares. If he can then Bid Maximum 60K for Corsa. And agree to buy it for 65K Max. For 1.5Lakh I would rather buy a well maintained a year or two old Alto.

And the vehicle is not too great in fuel economy either. As others have suggested the spare parts would be an issue and the spares are expensive.

I'd say don't go for this particular car and for 1.5 lakhs buy a better but maybe a smaller car.

OH yea 1.5L for an 8 year old Corsa seems like a rip off! ask your friend to get an Esteem.

You might get a 2003 Ikon for that price, a far better bet or a Fiat Petra.

here in mumbai there is a corsa which is 2002 model selling for 1.3L nego. i think you should get about in 80k-1L

suggest look for a better car
Opel never really did well in India despite all that hype about Pollen Filter, great suspension and build quality and whatnot
spares are expensive, not easily available and an 8 year old car no matter how well kept it may be, could just end up a big white elephant on your hands. Further re-sale of this Corsa once bought, will be near impossible - except maybe to a scrap dealer. And if bought on loan then you are just throwing good money after bad.
in 2005 I was seriously considering a used Opel Swing - I loved that car, but all the above truths about owning an Opel completely put me off.
Frankly you would be far better off buying a middle aged used Hyundai Accent or certainly a Ford Ikon if you absolutely must have a sedan in and around that budget - say 2 lacs!

if you look hard you might find a decent corsa royale (saloon) for 1.50 to 1.7, that was the top of the line with alloys,rear spolier etc.But better still go for IKON or an Accent
