Hello everybody I am planning to purchase Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI Ambient version. I wanted to know what would be the maintenance cost for it.
Year - Oct 2004
58xxx Kms.
Would it be a good buy for 6.5 lacs?
Check the value at carwale.com
I put in the figures for you and got this:
Individual Value

Car Condition Excellent

Good

Fair
Car Value (Rs.) 6,76,500 6,50,100 6,07,500
Dealer Value*

Car Condition Excellent Good Fair Car Value (Rs.) 7,04,000 6,63,500 6,14,000 * These values are applicable only if dealer is providing warranty or free services etc.
PS: I was also thinking of getting a Skoda Octy - preferable TPI instead of the TDI, however due to some posts here about the atrocious cost of spares, I dropped the idea.
Fortunately there was an OHC Vtec available, and I grabbed that opportunity.
You should be able to get it for around 6 lakhs as 60k kms is a crucial and expensive service.
have you purchased octavia?
Reviving an old thread here.
Is a used 1.9 TDI a good buy? To my knowledge, this is a fairly reliable car. Are there any known issues that crop up, as in the vRS? What major maintenance costs might one incur? Is this a costly car to run?
While buying a used 1.9, what should one look out for? Assume that the car hasn't put on a huge no. of kms (say less than 35-40k).
I am aware of the Skoda horror stories that are floating around on Team BHP. Can a 1.9 TDI be serviced at an independent workshop? Any recommended ones in Mumbai?
What would be a good price for a 1.9 (2-4 years old)? The L&K variant would probably cost more than an Ambiente/Rider or Elegance. What are the major differences in their equipment lists?
With regards to performance/ handling - what's the feedback? I know its a fuel efficient car with good low end grunt. A Pete's box makes it a pretty fast customer with a nice top end. How's the ride? Handling? Stability? Steering feedback? Seat comfort levels?
The 1.9 TDI pelts out a strong 210Nm of torque avl at low RPM with almost nil turbo lag giving it an auto box like feel in the city. The measely 90 BHP doesnt let you down on the highway either, it has the perfect balance of city/highway run.
Typical German handling/stability/steering feedback and build quality, the ride quality is compliant but the comfort levels/space are average.

@razor4077 - skoda 1.9 tdi is a gem of a car but buy which has ABS as i see you are interested in adding petes box.
Which variants come with ABS and Airbags as OE? I won't compromise on these.
Also, some inputs on the reliability and maintenance questions would be appreciated.
IIRC the Rider / Ambiente TDi did not have ABS although the TPi used to have it in that trim.
So you're looking at either Elegance or L&K. Not sure if the Rider Classic (launched a couple of years back I think) had ABS.
Rider Classic came with ABS and IIRC, it also came with driver airbags.
I love that trim its the only rider model that came in black, with alloys, rear spoiler plus dual tone dash - this will be my pick

All Octavia came with both driver and passenger side airbags. Yes, TDi Rider / Ambient does not have ABS, but the rest of the models have. The 1.8 TPi Rider does have ABS as well.
Although, I am not sure if Rider Classic TDi had ABS or not. I reckon it did have.
Cheers,
IIRC, the TDi Ambiente/Rider also did not have rear discs.
@Razor - Elegance would probably be the best bet.
Did the L&K and Elegance come with a passenger air bag? I assume the lower trims do not.
This is the picture of my Rider. You will notice that airbags are there on both driver and passenger side.
Cheers,
Thanks Ardy! I had missed your previous post.
I love the black + silver interiors. Much nicer than the beige interiors in the L&K and Elegance. But then those trims have ABS...
Can anyone confirm if the TDi classic had rear discs and ABS or not? Somehow, I would not want to compromise on these, especially if a Pete's dubba is to be fitted.
@Ardy: any comments on the reliability/maintenance aspects of the TDi?
