Advice Needed: Ford IKON Diesel(2009) engine sound too loud

Hi Guru's,
I am planning to buy the new Ford Ikon Diesel(2009) having the fiesta Diesel 1.4 Engine.

I have driven the car and I found that the engine sound when sitting inside the car(with windows rolled up) is a bit annoying.
I also drove the fiesta Diesel but the engine sound was negligible when inside the fiesta.
Any idea why the difference..
I am planning to buy a new car before March 31 so please advice

The same Ikon had a 1.8D earlier. Is this as loud, less loud or more louder ?

He's comparing with the Fiesta TDCI John. The cabin insulation would be way better in the Fiesta.

Sound insulation is not good in Ikon. AS you have a fiesta, you will not enjoy the Ikon's vibrating & Noisy diesel.

If it is really annoying for you look for other diesel cars.

Agent, with the above quote. Ikon being a decade old design cant match a Fiesta on any scale, except Performance .

agent007, is it the diesel clatter which is bothering you, or vibrations?
For the former, try to get some damping material on the bonnet as the Ikon comes without it. Should help to reduce the sound for sure.

A direct comparison with the Fiesta D wont make sense as the Fiesta is a newer vehicle in terms of design, and improved NVH levels. Also, it costs much more than the Ikon TDCi.

@Agent, your answer is exactly what @Phamilyman said.

The Ikon's an old design, compared to the Fiesta. Ikon's NVH is inherently a little high.

Having said that, the sound is not as bad once the engine warms up. A little ICE, and you will soon forget that there's an oil-burner under the hood.

Its just that the engine noise would ruin the best ICE setup

I think for the price, the car is FANTASTIC. Yes, noise is higher than the Fiesta, but not noticable one windows are up, AC is on and music is playing.

I'll put up a review soon but for the short time that I have had the car, the noise does not seem too intrusive. Could have been be better though.

Maybe one can try damping the insides of the hood. Has it ever been done?
