Mitsu Charizma.. wtf??!

Renault E-Space... what next - Cyberspace??

Lancia Delta - with all due respect to that mechanical marvel, is the car even greek? Or evolved around the mouth of a river...? Or needs as much petrol as one....?!

Ford Escort - and introducing the rest of the range, with new specifications - the Ford Bodyguard, Ford lookalike, Ford Personnel, Ford...

Ford Thunderbird - and the runners up are - Ford Lightening, Ford Rain-maker, Ford Fairweather,
Along those same lines - Nissan Sunny (WTF??!!!!)

Someone here mentioned the Twingo. Apparently that car has a history to that name. It was supposed to have 2 engines, one which turned and charged te other one. Then the other one worked, charging the first one... or something along those lines. The car finally got just one (petrol) engine, but the name was retained.

Maranello and Modena are names of small towns in Italy.

Enzo was the founder and Scaletti is the name of a Ferrari Coachbuilder.

I personally like love these names...maybe I just like everything Italian.
Much better than calling it a Ferrari Thunderhawk.

I guess it makes most sense for companys to name their products with codes or somthing like E class , 7 Series , 800 , TT

Talking about car names, A long time back GM launched a car in Russia and named it NOVA, and in russian it mean " doesn't run" so the car was instant failure in the russian market due to stupid name. I bet GM engineers did a lot of R and D while developing the vehicle, but they didn't do enough R&D while naming the CAR.

That was not in Russia but in Mexico. Nova means "no - go" in Spanish and that was a Chevy Nova.

lol:

Nopes. The word Indica was derived after combining 'India+Car',as quoted by Ratan Tata during the time of its launch.
Now i wonder what 'Indigo' stands for?? :p

X

I actually think Zen & Indica are pretty good names.

Steeroid, since you added "quattroporte".... then "testarossa" comes in the same category. Basically means "red head". Ferraris got the name from their famous engine heads which were painted red.

same here!

similar to names bombing in Mexico due to the nova thing as posted above same happened when Mitsu got the "Pajero" out in Latin America & Spain.....

The morons didn't realise that although pajero stands for a bird/parrot or something in spanish slang it means "w**ker"

they renamed the car in those markets in a hurry...LOL

Actually its both. India + Car worked out to the same as Indica which meant 'of India'

The car was originally slated to be called MINT for Mini Tata. That wouldnt have been such a bright idea - what would you call other variants then - Hint, Glint, Tint, Stint?

Indica is a good name. So are a lot of names mentioned in this thread - its supposed to be a thread on STUPID car names, not unusual car names.

Rehaan - Red Head sounds pretty attractive, and they are talking about something other than doors and windows...
