Liability to pay road tax

Hi,

I have recently relocated from Bangalore to Hyderabad.

Can anyone clarify me when can I opt to pay the road taxes. I was caught by the cop and he happily detained my DL. Now the taxes come to around 3000 which i do not wish to pay as I have two other vehicles. i.e an 1991 Yamaha Rx100 and a Shaolin for which the tax works out less. I can also send back the vehicle to karnataka as I dont need. Please advice how can I get back the DL without paying the tax. Is there an option to pay quarterly tax or annual tax instead of Life time tax. I do not wish to stay here long. So please advice.

Bumping up an old thread .. I am facing the same situation now :(

AP RTO website lists both quarterly rates and life tax rates. Does that mean I can pay quarterly tax?

My friend who recently relocated to Bangalore and drives a KL registered car wanted info on whether there is an option for an annual road tax in KA. Could someone who has tried the same please provide some info?

There is already a thread discussing this. maybe Mods can merge the two.

I don't think policeman can detain your DL especially if you have relocated within past 11 months. If you can prove the same, you need not pay tax and get back your license.
Unfortunately most of the states (Karnataka and Maharashtra as usual) have discontinued Annual Tax. they accept only life time tax for obvious reasons.
