Really a great man who showed there are avenues for good rural incomes with a little bit of organisation and marketing. Our country needed a lot of such visionaries. I wish the govt would give him a Bharat Ratna than all those politicos.

RIP Dr. Kurien.

I had the fortune of meeting him once. He was already ailing then, but a very impressive personality.

RIP Dr.Kurien. I read that he himself never drank milk, and hated it. But he was responsible to bring the nation from 'milk starved' to 'milk rich' status. Truly a great man.

Re: R.I.P Dr.Verghese Kurien

We had the privilege of having him here to deliver the convocation address. A most unassuming person. Also, one of the great builders of India. I only wish he had been given a Bharat Ratna rather than just a Padma Vibhushan.

A great soul indeed, Verghese Kurien Rest In Peace.

Proud of the fact this man returned from US to lead a revolution in India. Awesome contribution to our nation. He will be remembered for ever.

Also sad that he, like many other hard-working mallus, had to leave his home state to succeed.

Re: R.I.P Dr.Verghese Kurien

A wonderful Gentleman indeed.

He happened to be an Uncle of an old Boss of mine years ago in the Hotel Industry. I had the opportunity of meeting him and shaking hands in the year 1999.

An unforgettable person - totally unassuming, very warm and polite.

His eyes lit up with laughter when I told him quite seriously at the time, that I would remember him all my life and think of him every day at breakfast because I really love AMUL butter and eat some every morning!

RIP Dr. Kurien, the Milkman of India!

Am glad that they released the Commemorative Book on AMUL's Advertising this year, well before he passed on. Hope he read it and enjoyed it like many of us did and do even now.

I wish that our government recognizes him with a posthumous Bharat Ratna at least. Considering the number of people they are giving this to nowadays, Dr. Kurien certainly deserves one!

He had gone on a fellowship from GOI and had to return.

Thanks for that link!

The following line, I feel, sums it up beautifully...

RIP Dr. Kurien!

For those interested in how India achieved what we did in Operation Flood, do read his autobiography. It s pretty amazing what a man focused on his goal will do in spite of the might of the world against him! Truly a big loss.

Re: R.I.P Dr.Verghese Kurien

RIP Dr. Kurien.

I read in the newspaper today that once a Kerala minister asked him, "Mr.Kurien, you have done so much in Gujarat, why don't you do the same in your home state Kerala?", to which he politely replied, "Madam, in Gujarat even the buffaloes would listen to me."
