Nice pics there, very well framed/cropped! Thanks for sharing.

Any videos?

Re: Aero India 2013 - Pictures

Hey Folks, I attended the shows on saturday. Reached fairly easily as I used the Hennur road to go to the highway rather than via Hebbal. Traffic management in my opinion was pretty good considering all the construction and rush. Parking was well planned with tons of buses for pick up and drop from the parking. Overall the show was similar to the ones in the past. LCH and Russian Knights were new entries this year. Russian Knights were good but not in the same league as Surya Kirans in my opinion . There were a few food vendors in the crowd which was a boon while standing and watching the airshow. Something that was really missed was good commentary. Enjoy the pics.

Here are some pics from my side. Used the Canon 100-400 on a couple of days and the humble 70-300 IS ( non L) on the others. Apart from the shorter focal length and very bad focus speed, the consumer grade lens is almost as good as it's bigger cousin. All the Russian Knights pics are with the 70-300.

Thanks for the correction. I am too used to seeing LCA in Green and White that didnt realize and mistook it for Mirage. Commentary at the venue was sorely missed.

Re: Aero India 2013 - Pictures

Notice something different?

This was a very slow turn by the Sukhoi, probably using only the varied convergence of the nozzles.

While the different nozzle opening of both the engines are visible, a slow roll is a aerobatic maneuver that does not require thrust vector control.

Or am I getting this wrong? By "turn" do you mean a roll or a turn in the horizontal plane?

This was actually a slow left roll which was quickly changed back to horizontal position. You are right that this does not need thrust vectoring. Is it possible that at slow speeds where steep rolls are not possible ( due to stalling risk) they can use thrust vectoring as an alternative?

Here are the next couple of pictures in the sequence..

In the pictures, it is the port (left) engine with its nozzle closed. The Su 30 has a 2D TVC. Hence, for a left roll, the starboard nozzle should have been closed. Again, since the engines are spaced very close to each other, not really sure as to how much torque can be generated from TVC alone.

As far as stalling in a roll is concerned, it depends on a lot of factors. Ideally, if a roll was to be carried out in 0 Angle of Attack (AOA) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angle_of_attack), an aircraft should not stall, but at slow speeds, where the inherent AOA is high, there is a possibility. TVC does have the ability to expand the aerodynamic maneuvering envelope, so that is a possibility!

I guess they might be Garud Commandos (SF unit of IAF). OR the Para SF's? BTW, anyone knows how to distinguish between these special forces? Basically the insignia etc?

BTW, thanks for sharing the pics guys. Missed this year's show :(

These are Garud commandos. (here in this pic their AF blue gypsy is the give away ) Moreover Garuds are mainly meant for Airbase security. So mostly you won't find Army SF/Marco's guarding AF bases.

Simple: Garuds sport the Airforce Eagle patch on the shoulders, Marcos - very simple -> their scooter helmet and black canvas coveralls with face always covered! (remember they never reveal their identity - i mean NEVER!), Army SF wear typical Maroon beret with "Sarvatra Balidan" badge in their right pocket and sport a "Para" /"Commando" patch in their shoulders with paratrooper wings above their Name plate(right pocket).

@1ronH4wk - Fantastic videos!
