Anyone keen on buddying with me to scratch build a diesel engine?

Hi People,

I'm looking to scratch build a 3 Cylinder 4 stroke Diesel Engine. Like this one;

I thought it would be nice to have some people to work with.

So if you are wondering here's the answers to some questions you might have;

1. What's it for?
Just... or as we say in Bangalore, Summane.

It might lead to something or it might just be an enjoyable learning experience that you can boast about.

2. What do I bring to the table?
I have 15 years of mechanical design experience and a CNC machine shop (www.ushtara.com) from which I can steal time.

3. What am I looking for in you?
Preferably some kind of related expertise, like if you are awesome at combustion simulation on matlab or if you have enough electronics to sense inputs and drive solenoid actuator. But even if you don't have any of those and just want to join in that's fine.

You should probably be in Bangalore because that's where I am. Plus maybe you should have some time on your hands.

4. Why do it?
If you have to ask that question then you are probably not the right sort of person.

5. How much will it cost?
I don't know yet

6. Where's it at right now?
Still trying to decide all the things I want.

Do let me know

Why not a graduated approach:- Steam engine, single cylinder 2 stroke petrol, single cylinder 4 stroke petrol, .........

The joy of seeing ones own creation working as expected is essentially the same.

I love to build things. Anyway, I will be a spectator in your endeavour and still love it. Please post the actual project here as and when it happens.

Hi,
In your case I think a 'buddy' would be more of a nuisance than a help! Unless 'buddy' means 'gofer'.

Would love to see your scratch built 4 stroke. Esp the cam, and lubrication system.
