I had always seen office tables and bed and pool tables made out of the automobile frames. They look really cool and only an automotive enthusiast can pull of this sort of furniture.

P.S. My favorite is the last one-The Willy's Jeep Office Table. I will surely make it soon.

Hey guys. As being a car enthusiasts i need a V8 or bigger block to make a coffee table for my living room. I have tried getting it from scrap yard. But so far no luck. Jaipur and Delhi i have searched everywhere of all the people i know , nothing. If anyone wants to sell it let me know. My budget is limited and i don't wanna spend too much on it , I just want it on a scrap value.

Good luck finding a V8.

Not to be discouraging, but it might be quite a hard task.

Since the idea is good, may I suggest going with the block of an Indian car?

Perhaps a car with childhood or other fond memories. Will make interesting conversation.

For one, the block and hence the table will be of a manageable size and weight for Indian conditions.

And two, V8s are a little cliche.

Some years back scrapped a V12. But that was an industrial engine.
Getting a scrapped (automotive) V8 in India:- good luck with that. Also have you worked out the weight in case you need to shift the table.

The other use of busted V8 is as wine bottle holders!

+1 to Sutripta.

I had a Pegeout and a Nissan SD25 block and tried the same with it. The limiting factor is weight. You can weld wheels/bushes but still it will weigh quite a bit.

That said, you dont really need a V8. Even a V6 will do. Try the one from the accord. Easy to source. Get the block, shave of as much as metal on the inside from the metal shop, and get it balanced.

I was relocating from Kolkata to Mysore. During the drive, I hit a massive crater and the front left tyre's sidewall got cut. The Pirellis were about 30000 kms old, but still had at least another 10000 - 15000 kms life left.

So, decided to change only two tyres. Chose Michelin P3ST and got them mounted on the rear axle. Did not leave the old tyres back at the tyre shop and decided to bring them home and make some furniture out of it.

What started out as a simple project, turned on its head when I was able to source very old teak wood for a throw away price. So, decided to do a nice job and put the side tables in the living room.

Also felt that painting the lettering on the tyre will make them pop out and look good. So, got a couple of Elmer's painters paint pen in white and painted the letters. Decided to go with a 12 mm smoked glass top, to match the coffee table in the house.

DIY part - painting the tyres, cutting and shaping the wood & assembly of the tables.

Professional help - sanding and polishing the table. Getting the glass top cut.

Total cost (excluding the tyres, of course) - ₹ 8,000
