RMVB - real media extension!!!

Hey, i just found this amazing file extention called RMVB (.rm). It's a real media format which reduces video file size to less than half but retains the original picture quality and resolution.

Here are 2 vid files of my Vtec's tacho.

This is the original file - 1,920KB - http://rapidshare.de/files/25189716/Vtec_tacho.avi.html

This is the converted one - 894KB (46.5% of the original file size) - http://rapidshare.de/files/26556702/vtec_tach.rm.html

Imagine the amount of visual data you could store by reducing their size to less than half (without loss in quality).

1/2 isnt that good..

Divx does it ever better...the full length DVD is usually what 4-5GB and a Divx of the same with 99% quality would be something like 1 GB and an exception copy would be about 750 mb...so thats much better than this.. and in video compression movement really matter, if there is a lot of action, the file size reduction wouldnt be much..anyhow .rm are a great way to deliver videos online for a long time, i dont know if there are any Divx live players..

rm is a very very old format. Infact when streaming video was new on the internet, rm was all that was there.
But there are much better techniques now. rm will give you just 1/2 compression which is not even among the better ones. mpeg4 gives you much better compression.

If you've noticed, the original file was Divx.

Hmmm, will have to check on that. But will it retain the quality as well? Can you like show me n example by using a small file (like what i did). That would help.

PS : Which format gives best compression without affecting video quality and resolution?

RMVB does it better than DIVX !!! a full DVDRIP of a standard movie in Xvid comes to 1.3gb and KVCD formats are at 700mb while RMVB can cut it with divx quality at 300MB !!
