Oh sorry, because she was trying to get an aadhar I assumed she was a resident. Aadhar is not available for non-resident foreigners, even if you have OCI.

I think that many non-residents get one either by passing as resident (having home here, or family address etc etc), or because the officials don't know the requirements and will give to anyone of apparently Indian origin. |
This pretty much used to be the case but from Jan 2024 aadhar is officially allowed for NRIs as well. The revised Form 1 now has a separate column for residency.

According to the previous post (and
this link on the same site), it isn't.
At least, it
is, but only if they satisfy the requirements of residency. So... a
resident, Non-Resident Indian can get Aardhar.
 :Frustrati

Maybe they are yet to update this site. But in the FAQ at the official UIDAI site I could find the following:
(source) Quote:
Can an NRI apply for Aadhaar?
Yes. An NRI (whether minor or adult) with a valid Indian Passport can apply for Aadhaar from any Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. In case of NRIs the residential condition of 182 days is not mandatory.
|
Only additional requirement is that passport is mandatory as PoI.

Thank you! That is the
key information on this. And very clearly stated. :thumbs up
Hello members,
Is there anyone here, who got their kids with OCI admitted to IITs? Trying to find information around cutoffs.
Thanks in advance.

They cannot take the JEE, you need to check if there is an International quota which normally works on the basis of your 10/11/12 std marks.
I went through this for my daughter's law school. She could not take CLAT so she went via the international route. Top tip, keep funds liquid as
- You need to apply to each individual Institute
- If you get waitlisted. You need to deposit the fees to remain on the wait list
- You might get admission in one or two institutes. Select the one you want and await the refund from the others

Hi,
Following is the press release from IIT Kanpur (the organizing Inst for JEE Advanced 2025) which will answer your question. In short, if your kid's OCI has been issued prior to 04.03.21, there is no special cut-off and will follow OPEN or OPEN-PwD cut-offs. if it is issued after 04.03.21, then all the seats allotted to the foreign national candidates will be supernumerary with a cap of 10% of total number of seats in every course.
Hope this helps, if you need anything else, please feel free to reach out.
All the best to your kid!

Looks like this criteria is changed now as per Information Brochure. Now its optional for kids where OCI has been issued prior to 04.03.21.

What I am not able to find is previous year cut offs for OCI candidates which gives us an idea if its beneficial or not. As my daughter is having OCI, I am trying to figure out what will be better, female seats or OCI seats?
Any idea about previous year cut offs for OCI?

You can refer to the JEEADV website and browse to the Archives Section, you should be able to find details of cut-offs for the different categories in the Report for JEE 2024 and prior.

I already checked that. It has cut offs for all categories except OCI/PIO. Dropped email to IIT Kanpur and IIT Bombay but as expected, no response. Tried calling admission dept of both institutes, while no one picked up call at IIT Kanpur, office boy picked call at IIT Bombay and always said that all others are busy in meetings. So, looks like only option is to check with someone who got admission through this route.
To my understanding, it makes sense to choose OCI/PIO (Foreign) instead of OCI/PIO (Indian) based on below numbers:
If your child chooses OCI/PIO (Indian) category, she has to compete against ~43000 other female students to secure a female rank below ~3500. Just qualifying advanced with cut-off marks is not at all sufficient even with Women supernumerary! She has to secure a good rank in the CRL.
If she chooses OCI/PIO (Foreign) category, I think she has to just qualify the advanced exam in GEN and she has a seat secured in any of the top five IITs. Just Delhi+Madras+Bombay+Kanpur+Kharagpur have 6834 seats per below screenshot. 10% supernumerary for Foreign category means that there are atleast 600 seats just in these top 5 institutes. And I have not even included Roorkee or Guwahati or BHU in this! You can see qualified students under OCI/PIO + Foreign is just 186! So it seems like seats are not getting filled in this category!
This is my personal understanding just based on the 2024 JEE report but please do get clarity from any of the IITs. Any Institute's Registrar or Deans should be able to give this info! And good luck with your child's admission.
PS: Both OCI/PIO (I) and OCI/PIO (F) do not get to compete in any category other than GEN or GEN (PwD). So, cutoff for other categories are already rendered irrelevant by JEE.
Another point to note:, I assumed below OCI/PIO numbers are all OCI/PIO (F) as it does not specify. But if it includes both OCI/PIO (I) and (F) then its even more advantageous to (F) students.

Thanks for your response Comrade.
Yes, that's what I thought as well. But, what worried me is eligible vs alloted seats. Out of 186 eligible only 90 seats were alloted while you can see there are 600 seats just in top 5. So either people are not opting for anything apart from CS or there is some other condition that's filtering them out. And that's what I am trying to find by calling IIT kanpur and IIT bombay, but no luck till now.
BTW, till last year kids who got OCI before March 21 had no option of oci/pio(f) category. This is added from this year, so competition will be higher than previous years.

I am assuming most are opting for US or other foreign universities given that these are kids born during dotcom boom (most likely parents with IT backgrounds and some of them themselves being IIT or REC passouts). Just my assumption. Their nationality (especially if US or UK or such) would give them access to worldwide universities not easily possible for an Indian passport holder. I know people who prefer an engineering degree from a good US university (outside stature of Ivy League or such) compared to IITs. Many universities rank better and getting into atleast one of them is not so hard, and I would assume OCI/PIO families would have financial affordability.

If there was no F option last year, then there was only one category last year for all OCI/PIO. That would still not change the numbers we assumed! I can understand that more OCI/PIO may prefer to appear this year where many wouldn’t even have preferred giving the exam in previous years. But 600 seats is not small amount. Its almost 3-4x to previous qualifications. So there could be higher chance with F than I.

Till last year, kids who got OCI/PIO before March 2021 were considered at par with Indian students and kids who got OCI/PIO after March 2021 were considered as Foreign students. So, it was a very small number in F category. Now kids who got OCI/PIO before March 2021 has an option to be considered in F category and I feel there will be large number of kids fitting in this criteria. But still, I think it will be less competitive than girls quota for sure. Will keep on trying to reach out to IITs and post an update here once I have.

Ok. Then it makes sense that competition under foreign could be considerably higher this time. Not sure if there is a way to know how many “OCI before March 2021” candidates applied last year. I think JEE committee would not have collected that data or is publicly available. Unfortunately, seems like only JEE 2025 will give that clarity.
