R.I.P. John Forbes Nash (famous mathematician) & wife

If his work in partial differential equations and his economics nobel for his game theory work don't ring a bell, his life was featured in "A Beautiful Mind", the 2001 movie. Very sad loss.

Apparently he and his wife were in a taxi that tried to overtake a chrysler, lost control and crashed into the guard rail. On their way back from the airport, just having returned from Norway where he was awarded the Abel prize - possibly the highest honor a mathematician can get.

Sad news! A road accident is a terrible way to go from this world. I became a massive fan of the Nashs after the movie. The only silver lining is that they went together.

RIP!

That's a tragic end for a genius. Reports say they were thrown out of the car. RIP

Yeah - they were not wearing seatbelts. Quite a lesson for all of us - I still have trouble convincing my family that the damn things aren't there just for show in the back seat.

RIP to him & his wife.

Just highlights the importance of bucking up even on the back seat. Comedian Jaspal Bhatti also died because he was sitting on the back seat without buckling up.

A video that best illustrates this

Perhaps you could convince them that the car won't start unless the seatbelts are worn? You need not start the car until then.

Getting the driver and the front seat passenger wear a seat belt is still a challenge in India. It's not easy to change ones habit and mindset, it will take some effort and convincing. Gannu_1's suggestion might work

If they didnt already know better .. maybe if and when I buy a new car. The Amaze I have makes annoying beeping noises when the driver isn't buckled in - should be a trivial matter for any manufacturer to install such a beeping ckt on all the seatbelts.

People are plenty smart about NOT using seat-belts. I've met folks who proudly advise to plug the buckle into its slot and sit on the belt. Why? To shut off the annoying warning chime available on some cars.
