Anyone taking part in the Google Wordmasters contest on 30/9/06 ?

Guys,

Is anyone from our forum participating in the Google Wordmasters contest scheduled in a few cities tomorrow morning ?

You might have seen their advt. calling for people,
“If you have a clear, concise style and can use words to inform and persuade consumers, we would like to hear from you. We are looking for exceptional individuals to join the Google team in India...”

Don't have any idea as to how they are going to test word skills, format of the contest etc.

Anyone has any idea about this or is participating in this one ?

Mods, I searched, but did not find a thread on this topic. Please delete / move if there exists a similar thread.

v1p3r, you could have attempted the test. They can't force you to work for them, you know.

Yes, but it's kinda pointless, isn't it? (read: I'm lazy!)

Had registered for it but got a mail saying that i hadn't qualified or something to that effect....Incidentally I hadn't ticked the option that asked 'Would you like to work for Google?' which might have had something to do with it

Actually, the working part was optional. I also did not tick it. Still got the invite.

In Chennai, the contest was held at Loyola college last Saturday. In their print advt., they had mentioned that the total entries would be restricted to 300 on first-come-first-served basis. However, a ballpark count of the people that had come for the contest, was like 160-170. And apart from Chennai, there were some 9 more centres. That's lot of people. And the crowd was a real mix of young college guys, elderly people (a few in their late sixties), some bloggers, quite some IT guys etc.

There was a 45-min presentation about Google and then onto the contest.
They would give 2 topics, each with 20 randomly selected words, of which you have to select 1 topic. You would have to use the 20 words pertaining to that topic atleast once in a short essay/story/drama whatever of 150-200 words. Spelling, grammar, sentence formation, clarity, brevity etc would be judged by a panel of professional writers.

Results would be out in a month. They did not mention what the 1st three cash prizes would be like, but gave an indication as to a big figure (6-digits or so). The next 7, would get some gifts/vouchers etc. All the 10 will get a fully paid 1-day trip to Google's India facility.
