Is India really a knowledge hub?

I came across this league table of the top 100 universities in the world and found that IIT only came 57th, down 7 places from the previous year where it was ranked 50th. The only other indian institute in the top 100 is IIM which is ranked 68. What does this mean about education in india? Can it really compete with Europe,USA or heck even asia?!

Hi v2006 - Welcome to TBhp. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here . Please post in the "Introduce Yourself" section - we'd love to know more about you !!

And now to the topic at hand - what do you want to discuss -

(a) India being a knowledge hub; or
(b) quality of Education Institutes in India.

Where I am coming from is that the term "Knowledge Hub" is derived from the intellectual capital available in the country at any point in time. College ranking is only a small factor to be considered, for purpose of that discussion.

Also, is it possible to quote the source?

India always has had great potential from its populace. But add in politicians and reservation, and suddenly you find that the quality of decision making in the premier educational institutions is markedly lower.

Classic case of shooting ourselves in the foot.
