Crazy how a critical service being down can affect our lives. If WhatsApp or Google were down for even half a day, it would seriously affect my work.

Guess for some addicts, Team-BHP & Facebook are also part of the critical list .

WhatsApp is hardly a social platform like Facebook. It's an important communication tool that has almost entirely replaced SMS for most of us. Half of my WhatsApp messages are work related, and I'm not a part of any 'joke forward' groups.

I'm not active on Facebook (find it boring), and don't even have an account on Instagram or Snapchat.

I noticed the outage here in Australia, when i wasn't able to connect to my regular groups. However, wasn't too much of an issue, and although i did the basic troubleshooting without much success, i went back to other tasks. Came back later to find it working, and the news about it having been out of service.

So its just me then! I guess I shouldnt be talking about my typrewriter that I use at home . Ive gotten by fine with e-mail for work and staying away from whats app is a decision ive taken to make sure that private time stays private. I believe it was VW that pioneered the concept of programming its email servers to not send or receive emails during the weekends. And now Im rambling, so ill stop

Was on the same boat for quite some time. Joined FB in 2015 IIRC, and whatsapp even later Kept away just for the sake of privacy. But then in this age, privacy, especially online, is a joke!

On another note, used to be a gadget freak before but then sanity took over when I realized that how soon things are getting obsolete. So never was in the 'race' of acquiring latest gadgets. I still do my stuff with an iPhone 4s, a 2009 Macbook and you can check my profile for my cars

I love to use anything until it can serve the purpose - my personal preference is never to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading to the latest. And hence some of my younger friends take a dig at me but that's okay.

Saket77, Im not necessarily a private person - its just that I am sure that the more outlets I have to connect to work, the harder it is to stay disconnected I know what you mean when you talk about using things till they fall apart. In that respect I have a bit of a split personality as I can hang on to a pair of jeans for over a decade - well until the missus unceremoniously dumps it - while I upgade watches every other year

I do not have Facebook or Twitter accounts. Never felt the need to join one. My family members created WhatsApp account for me and added me in their groups but I rarely use it.

Son and wife will be talking how I miss out on connections. When I taunt them they are spending too much time on social media, son whispers to wife "Agreed he is not on Facebook but how about addiction to team-bhp?" No answer for it though.

WhatsApp and Instagram, popular apps owned by parent company Facebook are experiencing outages in many regions and seem to not be working on either Web or the smartphone apps. This seems to be the case across Android, iOS and web platforms.

DownDetector reports a quick spike in the number of cases of WhatsApp not working for people across regions on October 4. The same can be observed with social media app Instagram. The issue has seemingly affected people late in the evening, with outage starting at roughly 9:15 pm IST.
